I don't buy it. AJ was intended to be a main character from the start, makes an appropriate amount of contributions for this role, and you'd have to make a heck of a lot more actual changes to the show to write her out. To take Flash out of the first Equestria Girls movie, the only scene that actually has to be remade is the cut-and-paste photoshop scene. Otherwise, you can straight up edit out scenes that he appears in.

If Flash hooks up with SciTwi, I won't really care.

They really shouldn't hook Pony!Twilight (or any of the mane six, really) up with anyone. But for the sake of argument if they did, I'd prefer that it be someone who's actually on her level in terms of power and intelligence. I'm partial to Discord. '3'

It certainly doesn't help Flash's case that he has done absolutely nothing of value in any of the movies. His role in the cut-and-paste photoshop scene in the first movie does not count, as any member of the humane five could have replaced him in that scene with no change to the story whatsoever. In fact, if you completely edited Flash out of the movies, I don't think you'd have to otherwise change a single line of dialogue.

Indeed. There's a particular thing I like to point out to show how empty Flash is as a character:

Look at all of the EqG movies. Whenever a character talks about Flash, it is ALWAYS in reference to him being a love interest of some sort. I'm not even exaggerating. 100% of the conversations that characters have about him mention him either being Sunset's ex or Twi's crush.
