Many of the homes in the city are in foreclosure because the landlords or real estate flippers could no longer fund the payments. The Grand Rapids Legal news lists foreclosures. Frequently there is one person or one business with several properties in foreclosure. The flippers bought homes, fixed them up and the market crashed. Then they are left with an over priced house for the market. If they sold it, they would have to bring money to the closing to pay off their loans instead of taking home a check. Instead, they stop making payments. There is a lot more going on in the market than just people who have lost jobs losing their house.

It seems to me that you are rightfully being rewarded for good stewardship of your money. Don't feel guilty for continuing to do so as you make use of what has been made available to you. I don't feel guilty for itemizing my deductions on my tax return. It's the same principle as taking the home buyer's credit. You save your money and waited to buy a house and now houses are 'on sale'. There is no reason for you to feel guilty for waiting to buy something until you had the money to buy it.

Amen. Why not give bonuses to the people who were and are responsible with their money?

The comment "I am not a monster." is indicative of his inability to discern what is right and what is wrong. It makes me curious to know; what is his definition of a monster? This world is full of sick and crazy people. It appears he is one of them.
If one truly loves someone, any kind of physical punishment is difficult and murder is certainly out of the question. It is unlikely this was a result of a temporary outburst of anger on his part. As parents we are responsible to step back and take a moment if a child is frustrating or irritating. He was not responsible. He was a monster.
For all of us who are angered, sickened and who mourn for Jozlynn, know that justice WILL be served, in this life or the next.

It's this attitude of 'who cares' that explains the 50% divorce rate. Men who are in a good, monogamous marriage are much happier than those who 'spread their seed'. Love is a choice. Respect is too. It's also in our nature to lie and steal but we make a choice not to do those things because they are wrong. We are where we are in life because of the choices we make. Be responsible, make good choices. Cheating on a spouse is not a good choice which is proven by the negative repercussions one has to face.

I used to think that all of SE GR was high crime or a 'bad' area to live. Until I moved here and walked around. That's right, walked. If you don't know what you are talking about, you shouldn't talk. Better to keep your mouth closed and look like a fool, than open your mouth and remove all doubt.

Rule # 1: NEVER point a gun at a person unless you intend to kill them. Rule #2. Do not keep a loaded gun in the house with kids.

Last I knew, there was an over abundance of vacant industrial buildings in Holland. I find it hard to believe none of the buildings would be suitable for a battery factory. Why can't we work together to use one of the vacant buildings instead of constructing a new one? (That question is rhetorical. Tax incentives and the condition of currently available buildings probably bring the monetary cost of a new structure down low enough to justify (to the owner) a new one.

Life is different now. Used to be people talked to each other. You knew all your neighbors, waved to them when you saw them, sent over Christmas goodies... being 'neighborly' was just what you did. Nowadays, people lock themselves in their houses and call the city on their neighbors if the car is in the same place in the street for two days when the car owner has H1N1.

This is certainly a lesson in being neighborly. If more people had been on the lookout for their neighbors, it would have been stopped before they themselves were victims.
