I woke up at quarter-to-7 PST and decided to just lay there scrolling through comments on Open Thread for 15 minutes.

Who am I kidding I do that every day.

lol @ the reviews:

"I picked this book as a protest. I didn't think I'd actually GET it."

yes, you need a new doctor. Lemme tell you my "I need a new doctor" story.

I've had coldsores all my life, caught the herpes from my parents, no big deal. (Well, mouth lesions are pretty annoying/painful but not life-threatening.) I was trying to get my doctor to prescribe me a topical ointment or something, anything, and he says he has to do the blood test to confirm the herpes first. Fine, he orders the test, and luckily (lol) I had a large outbreak when I went in for the test, so I figured I had it in the bag.

This fucker misread the test, says I don't have herpes, and attributes my coldsores to gastric reflex. THIS MAN WHO WENT TO MEDICAL SCHOOL THOUGHT ACID WAS JUMPING OUT OF MY STOMACH AND BURNING MY LIPS.

I later went to urgent care and was like, help? That dude looked at my record, saw the test results, read them correctly, and gave me antivirals, which was better than nothing.

god DAMN, this is the most enjoyable thing I have ever read, and I would like to subscribe to your newsletter-slash-everything you have ever written down because you thought it sounded cool. Also,

"it is always upsetting to me when grown women weep openly like little boys"

this is not the best part, but I had to read it a few times to appreciate it, and WELL FUCKING PLAYED.

fox_inthesnow's post about The Sims gave me memories, too, but I'm not sure I want to listen to the podcast. I played on the Star Wars Galaxies roleplay server. I had a lakeside house, a lab/library, a small collection of high-powered rifles and mind-altering drugs... a droid (Wylie), a kaddu (MeepMeep) (I was not the most serious roleplayer haha), and an old beater to fly around in. I quit before the game shut down, but it was different knowing that I couldn't log in and sit around my house with my droid, crafting medicine. There are videos on youtube of players sitting outside the city with their pets, watching everyone set off fireworks, until the screen goes blank with the final "disconnected from server."

Every once in awhile, I still miss everything and everybody.

And I wrote in-character stories regularly-- started with EQ, carried over the character, then carried her on into WoW, but roleplayers were harder to find in Azeroth. I still have those stories around somewhere...

in my under-informed state I have been thinking of the Brexit vote was a sort of "no taxation without representation" situation. I mean I understand people are unhappy about decisions being made that affect them, and feeling like they don't have a voice, but I am finding it strange that leaving the EU was a thing they could put up for a popular vote? I don't have a point, I am just confused by the whole thing and will have some catching-up reading to do.
