And millions of others who don't fit into your categories.Forget them if you like, but they haven't been converted, nor will they be.

Suez was about two fading powers imagining that it was 1856 not 1956.Delusions of grandeur die hard and painfully. Those infected try to cure themselves with bombast, cf 'Regain control' and 'Make America Great Again'.

As in ''1984', a mantra extensive employed by a dictator to enforce uniformity of thought and suppress dissent. Eg Mussolini's ' Duce ha sempre ragione' [ 'the Leader is always right'] - 'No deal is a Good Deal' is in this genre.

The benefits were self evident: when we joined we were the economic 'sick man' of Europe we were flourishing. There were quarrels but there are quarrels within any international cooperative. The fear element was strongest on the Brexit side - words like 'tyranny' were bandied about and the EU was likened to the Third Reich or the old Soviet Union to frighten the naive. Trivial matters such as the colour of passport covers were magnified to a ridiculous effect.

So keep on whistling in the dark and if the deal flops you can always blame foreigners, the 'metropolitan elite', the EU, the BBC and perhaps even Soros.

Thank you for your good wishes: sanity will be restored but it will take time and price rises and shortages may sap the will of the Brexit jihadis.
