the phrase "no matter how loud we think we're shouting in Westminster...", screams volumes.
Shapps seems a little confused as to what his job actually entails. Witless self promotion appears to be the plague of our age. Besides, what is the point explaining what will become painfully apparent. I'd rate his post, except worthlessness cannot be measured

Unfortunately, what remains of Richard will be commodified, to not realize this is naive. This is why so many want a piece of what in real terms, is very little. But it should also be about respect, due reverence, and edification. Perhaps whoever is charged with Richard's remains should not state their claim but outline their intent.

My apparent pride no doubt betrays me as a citizen of Leicester but I do not think the maligned monarch should be held here under a 'finders-keepers' philosophy, nor do I disregard the idea that it is somehow appropriate. The historical significance of Richard III's ignoble return to leicester to stand as proof of his death is pretty much undisputed; his disinterment in Leicester 500 years later, is perhaps equally significant. Leicester was proud to name a street after him, and erect a statue in his name in times when he was somewhat less favourable. I can find no real mention of him in York.
The only candidates for me are York Minster or Leicester Abbey, even though all that lies there is an outline of stones. Leicester cathedral, might seem an obvious choice but it lacks the grandeur, having only been the humble Church of St Martins until 1927 when that large town needed to upgrade to city status (in a similar fortuitous fashion the polytechnic where I studied was upgraded to university - making me appear cleverer). The site of the Abbey lies within Abbey Park, a beautiful and serene location that would represent Leicester better than our second-rate cathedral. The Abbey would have been standing at the time of Richard's death and as an aside also holds the remains of one of histories other unfortunates, Cardinal Thomas Wolsey, Archbishop of York.
