From new "retirees" to millennials I've had numerous people talk to me about their desire to find work in distant places. It's not just that they want to see the world, they could do that with a holiday. They want to immerse themselves in a different culture, see from another perspective. They want to experience the world and it would seem the world wants their experience.

There is a sad panic reflected in the act of copying and pasting ideas from others. While it shows a lazy indifference, it's also so easy to be caught that I think that they must be desperate. Certainly makes me grateful that my experience, if not my imagination, is active enough to fuel my writing. :)

Interesting timing for this article. A few blocks from my home eviction notices have gone out to more than 100 units (families) because the owners have decided that the units are beyond repair and need to be torn down. Needless to say, they will not be replaced with similar units, but with high-end apartments. I was shocked at the news and more shocked still when one of my neighbours noted that her only concern was about her property values not being impacted by apartments. I'm amazed at our collective lack of compassion and embarrassed that we now have a special rapporteur from the United Nations trying to explain in the local media that the government has an obligation to support this community. Given that this is the second group of people in the neighbourhood to lose their homes to gentrification efforts I'm not optimistic. I'm definitely feeling like we've become indifferent to poverty.

Great points around language, though I'm sure the politics of language will always intervene to slow the adoption of a single language down. Slow, not stop it.

I was thinking that whether your team was located in the same spot or across the world, the criteria you suggested for team members would be a good idea. For example, while I believe in utilizing the motivation techniques that work best for each individual, I think it's critical that staff are also self-motivated.

Great advice! We have an election happening in Ontario right now so trying to garner attention is very challenging unless you can hook your issue to politics, even then it can be challenging if you look like you are siding with one party over another.

I can totally understand the influence of genes on an entrepreneurial mindset. I started my own business in 2017 and kept asking myself why I felt compelled to do it. After a family reunion in Barbados, all of those questions disappeared. In fact, I had to ask myself why it took me so long. :)

Great article. Now more so than ever it's important to get into traditional media sources if you want business to thrive. There is so much competition and distinguishing yourself from everyone else can mean the difference between success and obscurity.

Goldman Sachs would not be the right fit for me, though if you were driven and fascinated by money I imagine working there would be heaven.

There has definitely been a trend to move in new management directions. The European Commission's development of entrepreneurial competencies to be used by educational institutions and businesses speaks to the importance of changing approaches. Here in Canada, the emphasis on innovation and entrepreneurship is about start-ups but also about supporting more autonomy in employees and creating workplaces that encourage people to solve problems for themselves. By being more human, we are really just tapping into the brain power of the whole workforce instead of assuming that only those in leadership can solve the many emerging problems and changes businesses face today.
