parahelia : Popularity Poll In Beans 15

There is no news of any new novel. I haven't decided whether I am going to continue or not... I've gotten interested in some other fandoms, and seriously how long the author is taking is beginning to annoy me. I don't follow the manga version...

It is odd, really, but technically Ensei has recently appeared a lot in the books if you count the last Gaiden. I think everyone is surprised that Shuuei is ranked so low. XD

I'm also surprised at Shuuei ranking below Kouyuu, and that low to boot. Yeah, Ensei ranking in the top 10 is not surprising, but in the top three? I didn't expect that. On the other hand, I would have personally ranked Suou higher than him. XD

parahelia : Around 37 pages to go

If I detested comments, I wouldn't allow them. On this blog, it is very easy for me to disable comments. Actually, discussion is the main reason I bother continuing to translate. I'm not saying I'm entitled to discussion, but rather than thanks or gratitude or anything like that, it's the desire to discuss Saiunkoku with others in-depth that makes me even bother to continue.

Your guess would be as good as mine, I'm afraid. I just translate what's there on the page, and beyond that, we can only speculate.

No, I think it's absolutely the opposite. Ou Ki is stating that he's given up totally on Ryuuki, and that after he goes to Kou Province, things will get even worse for Ryuuki with the officials at court. His actual advice to Ryuuki is to run away so that Ryuuki will be freed from being king.

Ou Ki has been kind of a blank as a character, because we've never really understood what drives him, which made him harder to sympathize with. I hope we'll get even more background info on him now.

I think Ruka means that whoever that man is, he's one of the people messing with the Hyou clan, and thus needs to be gotten rid of. IMHO Ruka doesn't see Ryuuki as any kind of threat to her, although she doesn't support him.

Yeah, it's hard to say what the role of the Black Immortal is. We know he has something to do with the current situation, but so little is known about his character that it's difficult to fathom his motivation. On the other hand, it might not be him who is behind Sakujun directly as well (given we still don't know who/what was lent out). I'm still really confused as to who revived Sakujun anyway, also. I'm hoping in the next book we'll get some answers to these questions.

Actually, the part that I don't like about it is that it's a magic-specific word. XD So sorcerer or wizard wouldn't change things. I don't know, from my perspective, in English there really aren't any hard and fast distinctions between wizard/sorcerer/magician that are really meaningful in this context (I say this as a long time reader of (English language) fantasy novels). It actually confuses me that people think that there are. I think there is. People on one of the message boards were discussing this. Oh, how did he deal with it?

Thanks for your comment, but I don't really think the Chinese-English translation is that relevant? In English, there is pretty much no distinction to the general reader between wizard and magician.

Yep, we will. I guarantee you that. Well, I guess it can't be helped, because Shusui thought of him mostly as an annoyance, and Shuuei was kind of frivolous at times. When you see the assassin (in the next part which I am 3/4 done with now), it can mostly be guessed who he is. (Or at least, I think I've guessed who he is, but it's not explicitly said. But you're correct it isn't Jin).
