Dear Amy - have I told you I love you recently? Well, I do - it is why I continually read your blog. I (thankfully) missed this latest drama because I have been neglecting all things bloggerish lately (personal reasons not related to books or bloggers). You wrote: "our worth, our real worth is found in the friendships we've made, in the connections to readers we've established, in the books we've been exposed to, in the ideas we've shared, in the enthusiastic love for a world of reading we've been lucky and privileged enough to participate in." And I say - YES, YES, YES. I think many bloggers who have been around as long as you and I would agree. Such a relevant post. Such wisdom. Thanks.
I read this book when it was first released, and I still recommend it (and remember it). I thought his observations about how the evening news is all about instilling panic and anxiety and how that kind of thing dulls our ability to understand true fear, was brilliant. I have always thought that the news was designed to create anxiety which equals viewers (because we don't want to miss the latest warning!).
I agree that all women should read this book. So often we are raised to be polite and to override our instincts in situations. I say - trust your gut...it is rarely wrong.
