Maybe I'm mis-understanding the law or there is more information needed in the article. Where did it say anything about assault?

From TFA: "Bergin was placed under arrest for third-degree assault."

Also...
Really makes you worry about the taser if some drunk guy can just ignore it and rip out the barbs like it never happened.

They MISTAKENLY collected data? I would believe that if it was once. Maybe twice. But in 30 countries? Not counties, but countries.

All their camera-mounted collection vehicles had to be specifically outfitted with the devices to pull in this data. They had to write the programs to pull in this data. Once the car was done with it's picture-taking drive, all that data had to be uploaded, stored, and indexed.

Once again: they did this in 30 countries. This was NOT an accident. They knew full well what they were doing, and are only trying to save face now.

In fact, the German government demanded a hard drive from one of the cars, and Google refused. They knew right away what they were doing was actually illegal. http://www.pcworld.com/businesscenter/article/197...

Are you KIDDING me? All these comments, and only one comment so far saying that this is even close to being OK? What is wrong with people nowadays that a silly prank gets such a hateful response? Where is your sense of humor everyone?

What, no comments about more violations of "animal rights" laws? Won't Peter Rabbit need counseling to get over this traumatic event? What if Daisy the Chicken is so mentally affected that she doesn't lay eggs for a few days? </sarcasm>

This is a PRANK people, and actually, I think it's kind of funny. Yes, there were laws broken (theft), but as long as the owners receive their property back, with an apology, the worst that should happen to these kids is a slap on the wrist. Yes, they should pay for the vet bills for the injured animal. Nothing permanent on their records.

Thinking about this happening, I'm thinking that if I was there in person, I would be laughing my head off at the reactions this would have caused.
