:) In this case, being average is a form of excellence and I'm sure whatever you focus your energies on, can be achieved.

You got it right Devang - if you be tough to yourself then the world will be soft to you or vice versa. Getting touch implies moving out of your comfort zone.

Have a nice weekend!

Mythical Man Month...I'm yet to read that book but I guess this is the one which is based on Brook's low that does not recommend adding manpower to a already late project.

Anyways, I believe that life is too short to play small and being excellent is a choice worth making.

I agree to what you said. Appraisal should be a continuous process not once per year as a part of formality. When I was working with the an American organization few years ago, the CEO taught us that very thing as a part of Continuous Weekly Training program that all the middle and senior managers had to attend.

Organization who set stretch goals, have a clear sense of mission and hence wants to continuously improve, loves to employ continuous appraisal process.

In order for that to be successful, an organization have to have great people with (at least) good systems which are crafted based on measurable goals to make something happen. If its not there, it becomes difficult.

As your rightly pointed out, Many managers - who often play role of a good taskmaster - are not very great at understanding EQ of the people and hence they do the process mechanically as a part of their job whereas real need is to get 'real' and essentially they should be able to play the role of a mentor to the appraisee in order to bring out something out that helpes the greater good of the organization.

Hey Tanmay, thanks for adding a different perspective to look at the perception here.

I agree with what you said about results. I read the following quote when I read Kiss Theory Goodbye book by Bob Prosen:

"At the beginning of the day, it’s all about opportunities. At the end of the day, it’s all about results."

About being effective leader/entrepreneur/better professional, I'd put it like this,

"Perceptions are great servant but terrible master."

Yes Nirav - context matters. If one can look from multiple perspectives, s/he is most likely to make better evaluations.

Thanks Nirav for stopping by and commenting. I think your first one so welcome on the blog :)

If your objective is to show somebody what you are doing, you need to do something. Even if your objective is to do something to show 'yourself' how you're doing, you need to do something.

You call it karma or action or whatever but long story short 'DOING' matters more than anything else. Isn't it?
