Amen to all of this! I'm a history major myself (or are planning to next year at uni) so I can agree with this 100%. And thanks for the recs. I actually haven't read any of them before so I'll have to get to them sometime soon!

*Cries* Why do all the Aussie events happen in Sydney, Brisbane, and Melbourne? I'm so, so happy that Australia is getting on the map and that you all get such incredible opportunities to meet some really fabulous authors but I'll have to admit that I'm a teensy bit jealous. Look forward to hearing your wrap-ups and seeing some pics! Have a fabulous time.

I've been hearing so many things about this one! It sounds like it tackles some really important & relevant issues and it's always good to see books do that - especially Aussie ones! I'll have to add it to the TBR. Great review!

Great tops and a great post in general. I think the idea that once a story becomes published and "public" that it's no longer your own story - that's its personal for each and every reader - is a little scary. After putting so much work & effort into a story, to see it interpreted differently or even "wrong" would be something I'd really have to come to terms with. Great post, Jeann.

Oh my God, this is hilarious! I haven't read any of these books to see their connections, but it made me laugh. Great post!

Congrats on the new house,Jeann! It must be so, so exciting to have a place all to yourselves and the paperwork all done and out of the way. I look forward to seeing pics of your new bookshelves/study area. You should totally film/YouTube the process!

And woah, what a great haul. I wish Lifeline would come down to my state. I just know I'd go crazy with my haul too! Plus there were sooooo many cover releases this week. I cannot deal knowing that I'm going to have to buy so many pretty new releases in the future. I'm going to be broke!

I definitely agree with this! Emmmabooks (a BookTuber) just posted a fabulous discussion about how we need our YA protagonist to have more diverse hobbies (not just reading, writing and other arts). It's true that not a lot of protagonists have STEM hobbies/interests. Maybe it is simply because a lot of authors may be unfamiliar with the subject matter? Either way, more scientists/mathematicians etc. would be nice!

I did actually just read a "fantasy" book that was perfect for this. It was almost entirely about a girl who starts her own mechanical business to get away from her abusive ste-family. You may have read it - Mechanica by Betsey Cornwall? If not, I'd recommend it!

Woah, you've totally convinced me to add this to my TBR now! It sounds super sweet and moving and just what I need after reading a super popular book about suicide that just didn't work for me (*cough* All the Bright Places *cough*). Great review, Aila! I'll definitely be checking this out.
