This weekend will be my first weekend back on the platform after many years of not singing. I was doing good until I found out I had to go out there and pull off a Jonas Brother's look. I'm old, fat an bald. Do the Jonas brothers have an older uncle who I can go as? ********************** Seriously though, this was a great post! Sometimes in life you have to try and move on. Get past the hurt. Trust that God will move you past the pain and into a peaceful place with rainbows and unicorns and Smurfs. Then Jon Acuff comes along. Thanks Jon. You know, I knew summer was coming. That's why I had made a couple of extra appointments with my friend, "Dr. Timmons" to talk about how I was going to handle VBS season this year. I had my first one coming up next week. But no......oh no.....you couldn't wait to do a VBS post till after that. Had to push it up a week... Thanks... I don't tell a lot of people this, especially my Cristian friends - because they are all so judgmental. But with the scab ripped off by Jon, I'm a bleeding emotional wreck. So here goes... I never went to VBS as a kid. I don't know if I was an exceptionally bad kid, or if my parents harbored some kind of ill will for me being born in September or what, but wow.....It's out there. I know what things I am chasing to feel complete. When I read things like this, it helps me see them through the right lens. The things I chase after are garbage and worthless. But I still desire them. WHY?!?!?! no..... really..... Why do I still want them when I know they will very likely bring destruction to me and my family? I agree Jon - He does want a great deal more 1 on 1 with me. If I would want that more often too, I think I would end up in a better place more often. i.e. content, at peace, satisfied. I can honestly say I have never given much thought to the number 777, but I'm going to start keeping my eyes open for its appearing. Nice middle finger to 'satan' there too, by the way!! Re: the horrible kid lottery - my wife and I refuse a pager every week. They don't flash numbers on the screen at our church - they page your with a vibrating pager, but you can choose not to take one. Seriously? Good luck finding me in the sea of 2000+ people. If you are then I am too. We have a small group that meets on Sunday nights. We are planning a Lost party right afterward with all of them and more who are coming later. I think I am going to play it off as "an opportunity to introduce my non-church friends to my church friends" or a "witnessing opportunity"

Dark and light, good and evil, what could have been with different choices. Lost can be viewed as a spiritual reflection of things. Each of us could chose a new character each week to portray our part. Sometimes, I'm Jack - I feel all heroic and have a 'God-complex'. Sometimes I'm Jin and I can't speak English. Sometimes I'm Locke and I don't want people telling me what I can't do. Sometimes, I'm Kate and I'm a woman. no. Wait. Ok it's not a perfect analogy, but it has it's merits. I love me some Lost. Just drop the prayer bomb and then get in the car and leave! This used to happen to us when we were in a different small group. Except it would not be a weird prayer request. It would, instead, be the inappropriate and/or awkward kind. You know the kind - "Hey guys - Stan and I are still trying to work on our intimacy problems in the bedroom. Could you guys please remember to pray for that? Ok, we'll bring snacks next week... see ya!" I would like to see a post about the most interesting prayer requests done in a group setting. Now that is something I am going to have to chew on. I am very guilty of equating a great worship experience with how it made me 'feel'. I did not grow up charismatic, but Church of Christ - can there be a bigger opposite? Maybe if I grew up Amish. Thanks for the words - It's definitely something I'll need to watch out for.
