Although I'm not as petrified as you about heights, it's not my favorite thing either. To overcome, I don't think I would want to climb something high when I was by myself. But... you sound like pioneer stock and a strong woman. Good for you! Maybe if you overcome your fear on this, I can overcome my squeamishness with bugs!
