My theory is that laziness is like a sickness of the belief system. In the same way that humans have a skeletal system, a circulatory system and a digestive system, we also have a belief system. Distortions in the rationality of public policy toward the poor make it very easy for the downtrodden to strongly believe things that are only marginally true. The article does not mention this, but I wonder what percentage of the obese people in the US are using food stamps? I personally know two people who are obese *and* who use food stamps. They both, also, have health problems which are agravated by their obesity.
