I'd say the same.

There's a lot of reasonable thinking in there, for sure. I get the impression that this blend of arguments is the kind of pragmatic balance that a lot of players are striking these days.

I think having to do so much work is definitely part of the enjoyment, if in slightly different balances for each person. It's the fun of a puzzle to solve.

Also, on a tangent theme, just think how much tabletop gaming could be transformed if the readier-to-play end of the market found out more about the kinds of things that are involved at this end. For example, in board games with standard unpainted playing pieces - from games like Descent through to Monopoly, Ludo and beyond - or miniatures game with prepaints - like Dust, X-Wing - there was always a little pamphlet that showed how you could go a step further into painting or repainting the pieces or even converting them, and jazzing up the board, maybe with 3D terrain, and possibly even tips on house ruling and making new scenarios and game modes. It could just be the two sides of a single sheet. I'd bet a games company wanting to do it - and not worried about the implications for IP of course - could fairly easily find a paint producer or similar business to sponsor or partner on it. It could inspire a lot of players who might never have imagined it possible.

I started making a mental list to add to this, but it got so long I decided we really need to have a master list somewhere. Like D&D has its Appendix N - a list of inspirations - maybe the House needs something like a 'Page H', reachable through a front-page tab, where we have required reading, viewing, listening etc. for getting caught up with the House zeitgeist. A list of the things that shaped our interests.

No Top Xes for weeks then two come along at once, an unXpected Xcess of smeXiness.

I'm also trying to get back in the groove, so it's second nature again.

There was a bit of deja vu for a second or two. I recognised some of the posts, but they obviously weren't from the past few weeks, and I wondered what was going on. But very fine choices.

It's actually quite comforting when something is this late because it helps put things in perspective. And sometimes, as in this case, it even has the benefit of offsetting the passing of time, here sending the readers of today back to the posts of yesterday, for a second chance or a reminder.

For sure. The way they run so far down the page now is useful as well, so even a long comment section means they're still there when the reading is finished and older posts come into play.

That part about being clearly a network could even be as simple as having 'Blog Network' in the logo, or maybe under it, if playing with the image would be tricky, or there's no master file.

It's good someone's on the optimisation. I'm surprised it's so low. Maybe we each need a short checklist or quick think when we're writing, to drop in plenty of terms. When I wrote that post last week on using a few colours I could have woven in slightly more specific terms, like 'undercoat' and 'spray paint' and used 'sable' in the title rather than just 'paintbrush'. If they blend in and even add to the post, and encourage sharper writing, but help with traffic at the same time, what do we lose.

That'll be the archaic technology behind the scenes, running on last fortnight's time.

Blam!

I tell you what, for a relatively small country in terms of population you do seem to have a lot of wargamers in Scotland. Is there something we should know? Surely not a plan B for independence..?
