I got burned way back when Jurassic Park came out (after I'd read the book). I hate watching a movie after I've read the book, but then again, if I watch it first it ruins the book. The closest adaptation (at least for television) was Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell...though they still left quite a bit out. At least they got the main stuff in there. Still, my husband didn't watch it with me, so if the show ever deviated, he was fortunate not to be present during my grumblings. :)
