Oh I have some crazy roommate stories! Once I move out from my parent's, I definitely never want a roommate again (despite having some fun roomies too), in part because since I'm homebound so much I'd feel bad for the other person. They'd never get any alone time!
Ugh. Decided to try The Americans & have now stopped it in middle of flash back scene. I'm super pissed too & sad & disgusted & just TIRED of how sexually demeaning women is edgy/cool. It wasn't just the flash back scene; it's also the very first scene & how it couldn't even just be sex, it had to be that kind & shot that way. I'm almost afraid to keep watching it because I know I'll be constantly on edge as to whether they're going to go there again. Which is a shame, because I found the premise & setting v intriguing & I like the two main actors.
I think it's more a maturity thing than burning out, but maybe that's just me looking at the brightside! :) When our blogs began, we were kind of like kids, learning the ropes, making new friends. Then we got a little older, and like teenagers, we had a ton of wonderful ideas and projects, and we felt we could take on the world, so we did! Now we're even older, and we have other interests in life, and we've found a more moderate approach that still brings us pleasure, if of a different kind.
I would definitely participate in BBAW w/o the awards, and second Ana's and Teresa's vision, but if you don't have the time, that makes sense. :)
Also, I have several ideas for my blog mulling about in my head that I just can't quite be bothered to take on at the moment! So I know how you feel.
That's true! I wonder if it's also because we're older? I don't know...back in 2007/2008, my life was full of promise, I had grand plans for a career, etc., and I was still just a baby convinced that the world was my oyster. So much has happened since then that I never would have predicted, including the complete collapse of my health, that I wonder if a bit of my nostalgia is for who I was as much as for blogging. Don't get me wrong, I love my life, and I'm eternally grateful for all of the advantages I do have, but it's definitely not as 'romantic' as it was when I was younger.
You know, on the one hand I do miss the early days of blogging, but on the other hand some of my very favourite current bloggers weren't around back then! Back in 2010, I had the same issues with the changes, etc. you seemed to have last year and seriously thought about quitting several times. Eventually, I realised I could make my own blogosphere...I was a bit nervous about unfollowing some people on Twitter, but no one's ever mentioned it, and nowadays my own experience of book blogging is very similar to back in 2008 (there are still some things I miss, primarily Dewey and her read-a-thons). Except that I'm far more self-confident as a blogger, which helps!
I don't know if any of my experiences are relatable to yours, but I really hope 2012 renews your love of blogging. :)
I changed mine a couple of years ago to make it look more customised (rather than just using a generic one provided by WP; it's still a free theme, so I could only change so much), and I still love it. :) I don't see making any big changes any time soon, although I am thinking of rearranging the sidebars a bit.
I'm in the minority, but I wasn't a fan when I finished it, and the more I've thought about it the more I've grown to dislike it over time. But lots of bloggers love it, so I'll be curious about your reaction. :)
I just checked, and I wouldn't call that very few entries! One thing I might suggest is linking to the original post in your reminders, so people don't have to scroll. And for next time, if you want more traffic, you could offer people a 'bonus' entry if they link to your giveaway from their own blogs. I did that when my blog was younger, and it was quite effective. :)
I use the categories on my own blog to navigate all of the time! So that's why I use categories (and keep the list in my sidebar for easy access). I use far more of them than the 'blogging gods' suggest. ;) (I actually debating a category reorganisation.)
I do use categories on other people's blogs too, especially if I'm at a new-to-me blog and want to check out certain types of books the blogger has discussed.
Congrats! Book of Negroes (or Someone Knows My Name, as it was published in the States) was SUCH a good book, wasn't it?! Have you read The Book of Night Women?
