We are happy with two. One parent for each kid w hen things get crazy. Other than the first two years of our second child's life, which were crazy and trying to figure out a new routine, it's actually easier. they play together a lot and have their own language and vibe with one another. Glad to be back reading your blog after a long hiatus of doing nearly no blog reading :)

That is so exciting! And yes, liberating when you travel to have one less piece of gear to schlepp around! I think one of the things I've learned the most from my kiddos is that they'll do stuff when they're ready. and when they're ready, there's no stopping them. Each time I've tried to push them into something or hold them back, chaos ensues. When I lay low and let it all happen...one day a light switch flips and boy, how easy it is for them to do the thing I've been wanting them to do. Once again, those little beings constantly remind us how little we have control over :) Go Lil Miss! (and I'm impressed she won't leave her bed. You are very lucky! :))

I've learned that no one will be a stronger advocate for your child than you are. I have learned that no matter how frustrating a no-sleep period as a baby, potty training as a toddler, or defiant behavior at age 5 might be, this too shall pass. I've learned that kids require very little to be happy. They don't notice fancy furnishings, glitz and trappings of material wealth. They notice small moments, tiny flowers, a hug. I could go on. I, too, find the development of language one of the coolest things about being a parent - particularly because my oldest had a speech delay and did not speak til he was nearly three. Just wait til she starts to read. It is an incredible moment to watch.

It's awesome that you have the ability to get away and get out. Living in a place where we have no family, and few friends, and no budget for babysitters, our date nights out ended about 2 years ago and I think we've only had one or two since. I really miss it!

Their memory of things will blow you away over and over again. My daughter still recounts with vivid detail, at age 5, the rides she went on and the hotel we stayed at in Disney when she had barely turned two. I've started to believe that because their "bank" of memories is smaller, it's easier for them to recall more of them and more vividly. it's the only way I can explain my LACK of memory. My bank is too big. :)

Thanks for joining the flipoffs!!! I am really surprised about UPS letting your dad struggle with that large box. They're usually really good here about at least bringing something right inside the door. Sheesh!!!!
