It's a wonderful piece of legalese, so as well as stating "Northern Ireland is part of the customs territory of the United Kingdom", Article 5.3 makes NI subject to Regulation (EU) No 952/2013, which is the Union Customs Code. The two combined mean the UK must implement the EU customs regulations for NI.

The issue is not customs duties but rather the standard customs regulations that apply to any goods entering the EU, and as the agreement places NI under the jurisdiction of the Union Customs Code we have agreed to apply the necessary checks and restrictions on goods travelling GB-NI. This means for example plants cannot be shipped from GB to NI unless they have been potted in peat because the UCC forbids imports of plants from non-member states that have been potted in soil. This should not be a surprise to anyone, but apparently a lot of people didn't bother reading the document before we signed it.

We negotiated a Canada style deal, so while there are no tariffs on imports and exports we have agreed to subject all trade traffic to the full extent of customs regulations. This level of bureaucracy was entirely predictable and is exactly what we asked for.

The economic disruption in NI is caused by the NI Protocol the Prime Minister negotiated, or was he totally unaware of the contents of the agreement he was signing?

"The big losers from this EU " Game " Will be the republic of Ireland if the UK decides to implement an Eye for an Eye policy . We are by far its largest export market. "

The UK represents around 10% of Irish exports and falling, with a large part of this made up of trade with NI. Their biggest single export market is the US at 31%, with the EU just a point or two behind that.

"Countries like dealing with China because they wont receive lectures, but instead will be given soft loans and ease of trading. "

It's what comes next they should be worried about. Once they're on the hook they'll soon find the real price of getting so close to China.

They are not vital to our daily lives, they are just much more convenient that the alternatives.

Removing section 230 and making tech companies liable for content would effectively mean most political content would disappear from social media, extreme sites like Parler and Gab would shut up shop and Twitter would be reduced to discussions on football and pictures of cats.

For the sanity of the planet this might not be a bad thing.

" It is sad to see the RINOs that are the Conservative party once again selling out. "

In a post that sets new records for unintelligible wibble this one sentence must surely take the biscuit. What possible reason would a British person have to denounce a member of our party as a "Republican In Name Only"? Surely the very core tenet of British Conservatism is that we are most definitely not Republicans? Could it be you've absolutely no idea what Conservative politics actually represents and are merely regurgitating posts you've picked up from your MAGA Facebook group?
