BagOfNothing.com : Bag of Randomness

There was also an aspect of devotion for the Saints and iconography in the East/West split. BTW, some people misunderstand the council of Nicea and claim that Constantine changed Christianity. The canon of scripture was mostly set before that time and that is what the Nicean creed flowed from. The 1st century Gospels and the writings of Paul and a few others were always considered more authoritative than stuff written hundreds of years later, just as we'd consider a biography of Washington or Lincoln written right after their deaths to have more accurate information than something written in the 20th century which claims "shocking new revelations," but no proof.

They're all paperback, too, but thanks a ton. That's two more people giving me courage to keep going. I just need to keep these in mind when the business side is hard, which right now is always. ;)

In seminary, I took a class called "Birth and Resurrection Narratives." The professor said that depending on how you read the word, the wise men were coming from the east or eastward. I responded, "Does that mean that there may not have been three; they definately weren't kings, and they might not have been from the orient?" (As opposed to the song, "We Three Kings of Orient Are". He seemed to agree with my conclusion. ;) Paul

The death of Google reader is why I wrote about not trusting Google (http://trinitydigitalmedia.com/2013/03/i-dont-trust-facebook-google-and-twitter/). I actually think that Google has a huge problem that killing services that people actually use has caused. I'm starting to think I shouldn't trust any service they launch until it becomes one of the core Google services (like search, youtube, or google+), but how would a new service become a core service if no one trusts it? See the problem? Twitter and FaceBook have issues of their own, too. Paul

Steve Stockman : The "180 Degree Rule" and Why You Shouldn't Care

I guess we agree then. People who understand rules can break them for good reasons. I just wouldn't under some circumstances without those reasons. I didn't understand that you were saying, "break the rule if you know why you're doing it." I thought you were saying, "Don't even consider it in the list of things you think of." Those are, of course, different.

BagOfNothing.com : No Tip

I give God 10%, but He's asked me to think of other people before myself, so I tip 15-100% (yes 100%). People matter too much to God to treat them like this Pharisee did. That's the most unloving thing I've ever seen.

Steve Stockman : The "180 Degree Rule" and Why You Shouldn't Care

So you don't think that when your subject is walking left to right down the street and you violate the 180 rule so all the sudden they're walking right to left and then you do it again, that doesn't confuse the audience? What about a performance where the pianist is seated at a grand piano playing? If you violate the 180 rule, she'll be facing one way in one frame and then in the next (assuming a cut) she's facing the other way, but she hasn't moved at all. That's not confusing? I'm sincerly asking because I think it is, but as a videographer I can get too close and notice too much. I agree that a lot of films (especially action sequences) don't require strict adherance, but I've see so many novices violate it and it made me feel ill at ease and I knew why.
BagOfNothing.com : Bag of Randomness

My problem is that people are conflating "semi-automatic" with "fully automatic." Semi-automatic means you pull the trigger once and it fires one bullet. Fully automatic means you pull the trigger once and it continues to fire until you release the trigger or you run out of ammo. Why should a rifle that fires one bullet at a time be illegal? I don't get that. BTW, I don't own a gun and the only one I've ever owned was a non-functioning shotgun. So, I'm not a "gun enthusiast" and I'm not a member of the NRA. I just hate when there's a mistake that people bite off on (like the President who is in every other way very intelligent, even if I mostly disagree with him). I hope this hasn't come across as angry. I don't mean it to. I'm more bugged than anything else. Paul

BagOfNothing.com : Half of the world's food 'is just thrown away'

Looks like that doesn't include the stuff that never makes it to the stores (apples with bruises and the like). I saw a TED talk about this and it makes me think there is more than enough food for even people who are straving. We just need to figure out how to distribute it better. Paul

When I was a waiter, someone tried to give me a tract and a tip if I "promise[d] to read this." When I told them that I did in fact, know Jesus and had since 1982, they said "we knew something was different about you." Arghh. I was just glad they didn't give it to any of the people I worked with that I'd been trying to build relationships with.

BagOfNothing.com : It’s Official: Coke and Pepsi are OK for Mormons

I worked at a restaurant during grad school that was themed around everyone's favorite weekday (lots of buttons on my suspenders). Anyway, a group of mormon teens came in and would only drink lemonade. I think it's a little revisionist of them to change what they believe. If soft drinks are bad, keep at it. With a lot of states saying that they should be outlawed for kids, they could have claimed that the book of Mormon (or whichever of their other books like the Pearl of Great Price or whatever) was ahead of its time. Let us not speak of underwear or the church's stance on minorities. ;)

BagOfNothing.com : A pedal-less 'running' bike

It seems like the semi-crouched position would get uncomfortable after a while. I'm not totally sure the "over the shoulder support is necessary. Why not have a thin plate (but rounded) that goes between your lets and a seat you can lean back on when you're gliding?

Keith, insecurity is a LIAR. I spent a couple of decades of my life concerned that everybody was thinking bad things about me and that I wasn't doing the right thing. I've since decided to ignore that voice. I can be funnier if I don't care what people think. I can write books (working on my third) if I write to get it out of my head and don't care if no one likes it. I can love my wife more easily if I ignore the voice that tells me she's disgusted by my stomach. If you feel insecure, you should ignore that feeling as if it was some 9 year-old bully trying to intimidate your 30-something year old self. Paul

I agree. There's looking off camera and then there's a profile shot that looks like he's looking at something much more interesting than the video. Also, putting the stills off to the side makes it look like he's blissfully wishing he was with trees instead of being in this video. I'd do full-screens instead of supers. It's not a bad video. A couple of tweaks could make it great.

I really agree. Why can't we get the part of the sermon on the mount where Jesus tell us not to judge? Has anyone ever read the back of that van and come to Jesus? I'd bet not. God doesn't want us to try and bribe Him for salvation by behaving. He'll gladly give it to us as a gift, if we'll take it. Paul
