I love the books with recipes. There is a lot of concern about minority groups having very unhealthy diets of fast food, and it's great to see a book working against this stereotype and encouraging healthy eating. I wonder if my daughter would eat a rainbow stew :) Thanks for sha

I also wrote about Percy Jackson series that my seven year old absolutely adores. It's funny - she is extremely sensitive to scary themes, but not when she can firmly place them into a fantasy world. She had a bit of problems with zombie soldiers in Titan's Curse, but no problems whatsoever visiting Tartarus in House of Hades. A lot of good discussions were happening here about themes in Percy Jackson books!

It's a wonderful review! I love how you suggested themes to go with this book. You are also right saying that it's a BIG book and is better served in parts, especially to younger children, but my 7 year old swallowed it whole and then came for more rereading it on her own. I did have to explain a lot of words and terms to her like "out of wedlock".
