Thank you for doing that for me :)

While we're posting fanfic recommendations, I'd like to post one that I thoroughly enjoyed. It's a Harry Potter/Discworld crossover called End of the Line - apologies, I can't work out how to link it to the title because I'm old and have no clue what I'm doing on here. So we're finally at the end of the Discworld series. I've been mainly a lurker on here, but I have been here since the start - my how time has flown. I first found the Discworld when Light Fantastic came out - I saw an article about it somewhere and thought it sounded interesting, bought it, then found I needed Color of Magic too. After that, I was hooked and eagerly awaited every new book, buying them all in hardback because I knew I'd never get rid of them. Over the years every member of my family seems to have met Terry on my behalf - getting autographed versions of the books for me (although I do have a few rare unautographed ones too) - but sadly, I never got to meet him, which is one of my biggest regrets.

It has been such a pleasure to re-read all these books that have filled my life for so long, both with Mark and with all of you - I've thoroughly enjoyed the comments and thanks to all your insightful posts I have learnt an awful lot - and I got to re-read Shepherd's Crown, which I had never managed to do after the initial painful read-through.

It's sad to say farewell so such a massive part of my life, but at the same time it's been a lot of fun and got me through some really tough times. So thank you, everyone. I look forward to reading (and possibly even commenting) on future projects.

I've never heard the second meaning either. Maybe it's a US definition?

It was truly terrible. I refuse to even consider it as part of the same world as the books.

I'm really interested to see what I think of the book this time around, particularly considering so many people love it so much. I want to see what I missed. I read it when it came out and wasn't that keen on it. I seem to remember finding it hard going to read and so I've never bothered to attempt it again. I must have listened to it when I was looking after my father and we listened to all the audiobooks in sequence - because he was no longer able to read himself and I needed a break from reading to him, and he adored Discworld (he would have loved Mark) - but I don't remember it and apart from the obvious, I honestly can't remember anything about the story. I had even forgotten that Vimes was involved.

I absolutely love that album. I tried to post to say this last week but for some reason it wouldn't let me log in.

"But the Patrician isn’t a dictator, and we’ve rarely seen him clamp down on… well, pretty much anything.
Uh, the Patrician specifically is a dictator, but he's a smart, benevolent one who intends to be a dictator tomorrow as well. He doesn't constantly rule with an iron fist, but he could, if he were content with the knowledge that he'd be starting an uprising against him in short order. He only clamps down on things that threaten the city. Oh, and mime artists."

Well, there is a kind of democracy - as PTerry says in Mort - "Ankh-Morpork had dallied with many forms of government and had ended up with that form of democracy known as One Man, One Vote. The Patrician was the Man; he had the Vote."
