elephant journal: Yoga, Sustainability, Politics, Spirituality. : Why I’m Not Buying the Whole Forgiveness Trend in Yoga & Spirituality.

Amy, I love this article and could not have read it at a more perfect time. Yesterday, I made a decision to forgive a couple of people, trying to move on from the negativity. As I discussed this with a friend, I basically said I need to let go for me, but I'm not ready to trust these people yet. And I have been considering where the line was and how to handle that both internally and externally. This discusses exactly my concerns and really gives me some great insight into myself! Thank you so much for this! ~Tatum.

elephant journal: Yoga, Sustainability, Politics, Spirituality. : Why Instagram Doesn't Suck.

I believe it was Robert Sturman, an amazingly talented photographer and frequent contributor to ej that said..."Being an artist is 10% talent and 90% being enchanted by life." (RS, I couldn't find the actual post so my apologies if I've misquoted) SO~ I say if playing with Instagram opens up a space for anyone to be more enchanted by life, encourage it. http://www.elephantjournal.com/2012/08/this-is-th...

elephant journal: Yoga, Sustainability, Politics, Spirituality. : Ryan, Paul & Akin & the Various Kinds of Rape.

You're comparing apples to oranges. The "degrees of murder" vary based on intent. (Pre-meditated, Accidental, Self Defense). There is no such thing as "self defense" or "accidental" rape. Furthermore, the current issue is not addressing punishment of the criminal, but the rights of the victim.

elephant journal: Yoga, Sustainability, Politics, Spirituality. : The Lost Joy of the Clothesline.

Love it. Thanks for the reminder! I usually gush about using my clothesline to save energy and for the feel (plus there the sunlight is a natural stain remover on those whites!) But over the past month, I've been so busy that I allowed myself to get lazy. Well after just one month in the clothes dryer, some of my favorite clothes look more worn than ever. Back to the clothesline for me!

elephant journal: Yoga, Sustainability, Politics, Spirituality. : Self-Help is Bullsh*t. ~ Deborah Williamson

I agree with you on that Kate, but my take away from this post (which I loved, by the way) is that by getting out of our own heads sometimes and finding joy by opening our hearts to others, we clear the path to self-love, ultimately clearing the way to love others more openly. We don't need to completely love ourselves to give love. Maybe it's a parallel journey, instead of one before the other.

elephant journal: Yoga, Sustainability, Politics, Spirituality. : Is it Ever Okay to be Selfish?

Awesome. I went vegetarian and then vegan for health reasons, but researching it brought the horrors of factory farming into light to ensure that I would never start eating meat again (I still struggle with staying vegan.) I wish there was a way to make people care more. My mom, who saves every stray that crosses her path, volunteers at the local no-kill shelter and ends up with far too many pets under her care, outright refuses to watch the factory farming videos, yet continues to eat meat from Wal-Mart. It makes me nutty. Not to mention, I also have a boxer at home and the snorting & wiggling like a pig, seems like a pretty accurate comparison. Love him.

elephant journal: Yoga, Sustainability, Politics, Spirituality. : A New Sexual Revolution is...Coming.

This sounds like it is a fantastic and comforting alternative to birth control for adults in healthy, monogamous relationships. It's good information and about time that we had a non-toxic alternative to the pill. I must say though, I feel the statement that "Every 15 year old boy in America should go get this." is somewhat irresponsible. Unfortunately, I think that most 15 year old boys (at least from what I can recall) are far more scared of babies that the array of STD's out there. It sounds like this form of birth control won't protect anyone from STD's anymore than the pill does. Ultimately, educating our teens above and beyond "birth control" is the key, but I would worry that without the fear of an unplanned pregnancy, unprotected sex among teens would skyrocket.
