That is really exciting news! I believed they would release the game at Gen Con, so I am positively surprised that it will be available (at least for preorder and in PDF form) on Saturday. Alas I am totally broke right now, so I'll have to wait for a couple more days before I can get mine.

Stargazer's World : Gaming Disappointments: “Perry Rhodan – Das Rollenspiel”

I played and run Star Wars games for quite a while and everyone involved had a blast. And from what I've seen the more recent Dresden Files RPG works out great for most people. I own a copy, and have read it, but I haven't played it yet, but I am sure you could make it work easily. Alas the Perry Rhodan game just didn't work for me. After fighting me through the rules I just lost any interest in running the game. I still love the background, but the rules are not my cup of tea. Perhaps I should try to run it using FATE.

Stargazer's World : “This Just In … From Gen Con” needs your help

You don\\\'t have to thank me for that, Daniel. I know how much work and money are involved when you want to cover Gen Con for your blog and podcast from first hand experience. My own finances are pretty spread thin at the moment, I can\\\'t make it to Gen Con myself this year, so the least thing I can do is support you guys, so that you can bring Gen Con to me. :)

Stargazer's World : The sword is mightier than the laser gun – or is it?

Not all fantasy games follow the kitchen sink approach either. Or have you ever seen someone playing Lizardmen in a Middle Earth game or elves in a Conan-based game. Not every fantasy game is that open. But I agree that most SF settings are much more specific than most fantasy worlds.

I beg to differ. It's a blog run by a German (me) who happens to post in the English language. So there have been Germans here in the first place. ;)

Same here. But I don't think that English breaks immersion for anyone in my group. But the reason is probably that we have been playing together for many years now and we are just used to this special version of Denglish that we don't mind.

The game will be a free download and it will even be licensed under Creative Commons Attribution-Non Commercial-Share Alike. The rules are pretty rules-light and fit easily on about 28 pages right now.

By the way, we plan to release the game next week if nothing unforeseen happens.

Stargazer's World : Communication Breakdown: Language in RPGs

It's quite showing that most games/settings have some kind of "common language" or a technology/magic that overcomes language barriers. I fully agree that RPGs are games of communication and when a player character can't communicate with some NPCs or even with his mates, something goes terribly wrong.

Stargazer's World : My thoughts on PDF pricing and print + PDF bundles

I have to admit that I am quite happy with PDFs so far. The few epub versions of RPG products I've seen haven't really convinced me. Since I use an iPad I don't have an issue with viewing even graphic intensive PDFs.

Steve Chenault, President & CEO of Chenault & Gray Publishing, Troll Lord Games, posted on the official TLG forums recently and addressed some of the issues mentioned in this post: http://www.trolllord.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=8... (you have to scroll down a bit) While I totally disagree with his comments regarding PDF pricing (he seems to be totally unaware of Bits & Mortar and similar initiatives), I am glad this finally got resolved.

Stargazer's World : The Klarkash-Ton Cycle

I think I have to check out this hardcover collection. It sound like something I just need to have on my bookshelf. And I agree that the Chaosium books have some proofreading issues, but at least my copy of the book was of good print quality - for a book of that price at least.

What Youseph meant is that you don't get an option to download the PDF for free or low cost when you buy a print copy. Not every publishers offers this, but an increasingly number of publishers do. In my humble opinion the TLG guys would benefit from this move.

Thanks for the clarification, Tommy. But I think I was a bit unclear where I was talking about Savage Suzerain and where it was about Caladon Falls. Because I actually meant that Caladon Fall's characters should be human only. Of course you do have more options in Savage Suzerain.
