Family means a lot, but if I'm honest....they aren't "everything" to me. I could start with the father I've never met and who rejected me completely before I was even born, move on to the emotionally distant parents, the back-stabbing in-laws, and wrap up with the worst...the child who cuts me out of his life (and therefore my grandchildren's lives) every time he doesn't like something. I've learned not to count on my real family. I trust the family of friends I have chosen with my heart more than my own blood.
