my 6 year old son told us 91 times in the course of one weekend (91- we counted) that he hates the Old Lady Who Swallowed the Fly. Now my husband likes to taunt him by saying "The old lady who swallowed" and watching him put his hands over his ears. Autism can be fun.

My son's SPD is WORST with fingernail cutting. Baths are ok, and we can even get through haircuts now without the FBI being called in. But fingernails--- that takes BOTH parents---- I do his sister first--- and while I'm doing his sister, he's warming up with the screaming and crying. I can't get through cutting his fingernails without scars and without another person holding him back from biting me. It's rough going.

Is it a punishment for YOU though when you take away the stim screens? Without the tv, ipad, or computer (my kids haven't yet used my wii)---- on a good day we read lots of books, play with playdough, color, play outside, chat on the phone with the grandparents, cook, etc. But on a bad day, it's "can I use the computer" EVERY TWO MINUTES whether it's a consequence or not. "no but thanks for asking" 57 times in one hour is enough to drive me batty and stick a screen in front of her face.......

one time I tried to take Fred to Wilma's physical therapy appointment. He had a full on meltdown in the waiting room (sooo bad that I NEVER brought him back) because I had 7 crayons in my diaper bag. Not the full 8. I was missing the black one. He HADDDD to have all the crayons lined up in exact order. A Year later with lots of occupational therapy and abilify (a wonderful med), he perseverates a bit less. Having said that, he's taken to licking me lately. But he doesn't lick at school, so it's all good. PS--- I like expo markers too!

My twins are 5 and both have ASD--- one with a more classic presentation (but he is now verbal and newly potty trained)---- he freaks out in social settings and has a lot of trouble with groups of children, playgrounds, parties, events, etc but does GREAT one on one with an adult---- his academic skills are ridiculous and is now doing 3rd grade math. Working on his biting.

His twin sister also has adhd and hypotonia and other problems--- she REFUSES to potty train but is a social butterfly and loves school. She's a true sensory seeker and is constantly bumping her chin against me all day long like a cat.

I would love to read this book!

that's a new one. Instead of asking my kids "why are you up" I'll start asking.... "is a bird trying to rip your eyeballs out of their sockets? because THAT's a reasonable reason to be out of bed."
