I still maintain that Sarcastaball was the Brony episode. Most others felt no one could really take it seriously, yet the kids actually enjoyed the game genuinely and grew from the lessons in it. Granted it wasn't deliberately a reference to the show and Matt & Trey may not have even heard about it at that point, but it fits incredibly well.

This is the first episode or Bob's Burgers (that we know of) written by a cast member, Dan Mintz (Tina Belcher, the fan in this scene). Combining the fact that this of all episodes is the first one of the cast felt compelled to write, that the voice of the fan figure in this scenario is the one who wrote it and the various stills showing Bob seeming to enjoy himself at the convention, I trust this won't be the simple "freak show"/Fur & Loathing/etc episode some suspect it will be. Well, maybe Louise (bunny ears) will take that approach, but that's completely in her character.

It's exactly the kind of cynicism Conan spoke against during his final episode of the Tonight Show. People have essentially been programmed to think that the best of life is either a fabrication of the harsh truth or depressingly temporary. Even many who live with a positive outlook have it ingrained subconsciously that humans don't deserve anything good and will cheat themselves out of it. Because of this, the mass action is to fulfill their own negative prophecy. If anything goes against such an idea, like something morally strong gaining a lot of popularity and having a positive impact on the world, the first thing general society will do is try to poke holes in it so they don't have to take it seriously and become invested. As much as people want such a good thing, societal pressure encourages a laziness through apathy that dictates what a person puts their attention towards. They don't want to bring the bad things into the world, but they deny the good things will have any real impact (though they can). I hate to say it, but that's the cause of the problems we've seen in our own community as of late. These people who quarrel the way they do and complain about the most trivial things (I'm not against healthy criticism, btw) do so because part of them can't believe what a wonderful thing we've had existed in the first place and that it surely must unravel. Courtesy of the back of their minds, they're helping bring that about (though I doubt we'd see an end any time soon, despite the "doom and gloom-ers" who are also a product of this mindset). A great way to look at this is via the George Harrison song "All Things Must Pass." Most people will say nothing good can last and that the bad times are the status quo. I say with the end of one good thing we can look forward to the next good thing. It may not always be as soon as we like, but we can only hope it comes when we need it. In the case of MLP, we've needed it. After-Post Thought: The recent book of The Legend of Korra, "Spirits," touches on this idea a bit. "...if you look for the light, you can often find it. But if you look for the dark, that is all you will ever see."
