Best Foods mayonnaise (or Hellman's depending on which part of the country you live in). Cascade dish washing detergent. Coca Cola - my whole family - do not show up with Pepsi or else. And yes! Great Lash! Nothing better.

Watching someone fold towels differently than I do makes me bonkers. My reaction is way left of reasonable. I fold mine in half from end to end, in half again and then in thirds from each side. Don't even get me started on hand towels or washcloths.

If I thought my daughter could be in some sort of physical danger, I wouldn't hesitate. Short of that, no. On the flip side, we have told our teenagers that privacy is a privilege that we will happily and thoroughly extend unless they give us reason not to.

http://www.rageagainsttheminivan.com/ : Setting the stage for our kids to confide in us

One way we built trust with our kids early on was when they asked us questions we didn't think they were ready to know the answer to, we told them it was a good question and we would answer...just not yet. We always followed through, whether they asked again or not, when they were old enough. They are now teenagers and very open with us still.

I make sure my kids know that I know they're lying. I call them out on it immediately. Most of the time I will say something like, "Wanna back up and try that again?" I also try to make them understand, especially now that they are teenagers, that lying makes it harder for me to believe them in the times when they really need me to.

Preston for the win. I have a circle of friends who tend toward the left. Hard. I voted for Bush. Twice. We love, we cry, we support, we debate...we trust. A couple had issues with my *whisper/glitterboobs/whisper* post here and told me so. They told me so in a way that was full of mutual respect and remained honoring to the friendship we had built. Those who know nothing about me? Not so much. I think we should all print this out and Gorilla glue it to our laptops.

Not sure where you got that I don't counsel my daughter about appropriate clothing. That's a huge assumption. Yes, grown women can wear whatever they like. 15 year olds? Not so much. As least not in my house.

I think it fair criticism of the way I worded it. My point comes from years of working with women in self-defense classes and teaching them how not to be victims. To avoid situations of abuse in the first place. Confident women are not the easiest targets for abusers. They tend to choose more submissive women. More experienced abusers will go after stronger women as a power play to take them down. But I do get the concern with how I said it.

I see it a lot actually. Some women wear clothes as a dare to men. It's a power play. Most of my friends are guys and I hear stories like this all the time. As to how do you guide your girls, I would say the way they dress is more a byproduct of the confidence itself. If you can teach a girl to respect herself and know her own worth, she's going to present herself in a way that reflects that. As their mom though, you definitely have the veto if things get a little too "confident".

My daughter is 5'9" and getting taller. She's also about as big around as a straw. There is no one-piece suit that will fit her. Not that I have found in stores anyway. We buy her two-piece suits and she chooses to wear a tank top with them. She's pretty modest by nature, so it works for her. If she didn't want to wear the tank top, I would probably be okay with that though. I was about her age when my parents cut those particular strings and they were pretty conservative.

I actually agree with you. What's hard is the line between causing someone stumble who wouldn't normally and someone who is going to lust no matter what you wear. It's impossible to know which is which sometimes. So the question becomes, do you adjust your own dress for the lowest common denominator a la the Duggers? I honestly don't have an answer for that one. I just try to apply the same thing I do to life in general. What allows me to sleep peacefully at night? The answer to that is a basic respect for myself and others. And an occasional bikini.
