The Toast : The Politics of Ugly Food

Marshmallow fondant is the answer. It tastes much better than the standard variety. It's also not as classy, but who cares?

The Toast : Things I Wish I Could Say To People, Interracial Family Edition

My first husband was Filipino, and his mother was very quick to inform me that if we had children, they would look like him, not me. I never really knew how to take that.. But we ended up not breeding anyhow, so it's a moot point. Just seemed like such an odd thing to say.

That is breathtaking.. Both of them, really. I'm always so blown away by ancient artists! The sculptures always look like they're alive.

Mmm, actually I have quite a thing for Marvel's version of Loki, who combines the trickster/brainy with the eyes, floppy hair and such.

Nah, mine was Jareth from Labrinth. Bowie in tight pants triggered my sexual awakening. I blame Michelle Phieffer for my bisexual awakening. Blame? Thank. Thank is the word..

The Toast : Trapped in the Stairwell: My Birth Story

I had my first naturally, and the second was induced.. I ended up getting an epidural. The difference between the two deliveries was surreal! The first time I was incoherent, and only vaguely aware of people in the room as I labored, nude, for hours, collapsing into an only semi-conscious heap in between contractions. The second time.. (Being induced is awful to begin with) the contractions came on so hard and so fast I had no time to put my mind in that faraway place where I could handle it, so I guiltily accepted the offer of the epidural. Oh. My. God. I was able to have a conversation with the midwife and my husband AS I GAVE BIRTH! Night and day, I tell you. Modern medicine is a marvel! No regrets!
