To add to my previous comment. What I am hoping comes out of this, is context. Maybe in time, and enough discussion, the narrative on the flag can be brought back to one that is merely historical in nature.

Maybe, in time the power of the symbol will fade. Perhaps, then It can finally be solely for use in the hands of historian and heritage groups. Not by would be rebels. Not by folks who want to perpetuate hate. Not waived just for the sake of waiving; for political purposes, or "just because." Brought out in re-enactments. Brought out during memorial services for those who died. Brought out for historical lessons.

Left tucked away for the rest of the time, at peace with the folks who died 150 years ago. If it is a soldiers flag, it should be with them. Not made to continually fight old battles.

I am a Southerner (and a member of the SCV), and the battle flag (to me) merely represents my umpteen relatives that died for that awful war. The common soldiers just believed it was about Independence, and/or protecting their family (read James Mcpherson's "What they fought for"). However It should only be on memorials, not government buildings that are meant to represent an entire constituent.

That being said this comic is hilarious.

Before you ask, I am not even white...
