I think the only thing you can do is to mix it with your lighter foundation to tone it down a bit. (Of course, this means you cannot actually test the tester!)
Also, because your skin is much lighter in winter, you will not need to use a bronzer and look more natural!
(At least that's what I do with my samples, and judging by your photo we have pretty similar skin tone)

The one MAC product I could not live without is a brush. The 217 brush is just amazing.
As far as lipsticks/shadows/paint pots etc. I don't own that many. Altough I love colour, I would say the two shadow musts are satin taupe and expensive pink.
