ooooh, you really ARE an angry liberal, aren't you? Well, you just pound little fists and stamp your little feet all you want. And when you get over your little tantrum, you may come back to the table with the grown-ups, 'k? K.

Just curious, BluePhantom2: why did you use apostrophes in the phrase "...liberal's or progressive's care about feeilngs...?" Seriously, I'd like to know. I'm not picking on you; I've wanted to ask this question for a long time. It seems sometimes people just sprinkle them in at random, almost as if there were a quota for the number of apostrophes in a paragraph.

Big Journalism : Dr. Laura Schlessinger to End Her Radio Show

I must admit that I'm glad Dr. Laura has decided to hang up her headphones. While I generally agree with what she has to say, I think she's shrill and self-righteous, and she tends to be rude and dismissive to her callers. I have never been able to stand listening to her for more than a few minutes at a time.

"There should be an investigation by the FCC on the MSM..." That would be a good idea except for two things: Thing 1.) The FCC does not regulate the MSM, at least for now. It regulates radio and television stations. Period. Not cable, not networks, not newspapers. Just radio and TV stations. Thing 2.) Who do you think appoints the FCC commissioners? The president. So good luck with that anyway. :

Big Journalism : Overnight Thread: Obama Backs Ground Zero Mosque -- How Will the 'Tolerant' MSM Spin This One?

The dazzling arrogance of King Barack never fails to amaze me -- I guess I'm just easily amazed. Or, maybe I keep thinking that someone will get through to him and explain that he needs to at least pretend that he doesn't hold the American people in contempt. I was, actually, pleased to hear that the mosque is supported by our Dear Leader, because every time he does something like this, the switch will flip in a few more people, and they'll realize that they have not elected a president, but rather an arrogant and distant ruler.

Big Journalism : Caught on Video: Couric Mocks Palin on Day She’s Named Running Mate

Peteee, with all due respect, I think you're missing my point. All I'm talking about is her offhand comments, caught on video, which were NOT part of her voiceover script. I have the same objections about the tone of that script: arrogant, and mocking. I'm talking strictly about the OFF-AIR comments Couric made. On the left and the right, media types tend to be a bit irreverent. If she had said (off-air) something like, "Who is this idiot Sarah Palin?" then I would agree. But remember, even to Couric at that time, Governor Palin was something of an unknown. It's not to be unexpected that she'd question the pronunciation of "Wasilla" or make a comment about the unusual names of Governor Palin's children. And as for your contention that, "she also never made fun of all the gaffes made by biden," well, it wouldn't surprise me a bit if at some point, she may have. Biden is well known, to the left and the right, as being gaffe-prone. Remember, these are off-handed remarks made during banter with the production crew... not editorial pronouncements. Again, I am not DEFENDING Couric. She is a huge part of the leftist, elitist, MSM, which I despise as much as you do. I am just making a very simple point: this sort of mindless chatter is what goes on in broadcast studios. Period. I do not like what she said, all I'm saying is that we have to be very careful about creating a mountain out of a molehill. If similar off-air video of Fox anchors engaging in the same sort of behavior toward Obama or one of his minions were to surface, you can be sure that now, we'll never hear the end of it. It is vital that we choose our battles wisely -- and believe me, this particular battle is one best left alone. Let's save our outrage for something REALLY egregious. If we waste our ammunition on a petty matter like this, we won't have any left when a big one comes along. See what I mean?

Richard, you are, of course, correct. I agree with you that the script for the voiceover is hardly what it should be. But the subject here is not the voiceover script -- that can be critiqued for what it is: condescending and arrogant. What's being discussed is what Couric said during the part of the session which was NOT for air. Was it mocking? Yes. Should she have said what she said? No. What I'm getting at, though, is that this is just not surprising and it's not unusual. Let's save our indignation for something really egregious.

You're right, Quirt, but what I'm saying is that this is hardly the "gotcha" moment I was expecting. Is anyone really surprised that Couric would engage in this sort of banter? Don't you think it's possible that the Fox News anchors may do the same sort of thing during a casual voiceover session? Again, I'm familiar with this sort of atmosphere, and nobody's spared a bit of mocking. If this is the standard for a "gotcha" moment, we'd better hope the Fox News anchors are squeaky clean when it comes to this sort of free-wheeling banter... or we'll be seeing those videos popping up soon.

I love Sarah Palin, and I really hate to defend Katie Couric in any way, but this is much ado about nothing. I've never worked in the lofty heights of CBS, but I've been in radio and TV for more than 30 years... and this is just the sort of knock-about banter that goes on all the time. When I watched the video I kept expecting something really vicious to pop up, but it never did, it was just same sort of meaningless chatter I've heard between talent and crew for many years. If you're going to blast Couric for mocking Sarah Palin, or anyone else, you're going to have to come up with something a lot better than this... otherwise it really makes us look like a bunch of sniveling crybabies.

Big Journalism : Weiner Explodes, Expresses 'the Nation's Frustration' With the You-Know-Whos in Congress!

Not so fast, there, kwippleton, it'sot quite that simple. Before you go berating "you people" for believing the "right-wing propaganda machine," maybe you should stop listening so completely to the left-wing propaganda machine. It was shameful politics as usual, yes. But there's enough blame to go around. First, the Republicans, to their dishonor, added an amendment to the bill that would have refused payment to any first responders who were found to be illegal immigrants. Nothing terribly wrong with that, but up to that point it hadn't been an issue. In other words, they created a straw man. But they also did make valid objections: There's ALREADY a massive fund for first responders, and the bill as written would encourage waste and fraud, and add more spending to an already overloaded federal budget. But the Democrats don't escape shame either. They added their own "poison pill." I'll let Howard Portnoy of the Philadelphia Examiner explain: "They invoked a bit of procedural hocus-pocus that required that a two-thirds majority was now needed to pass the bill. This maneuver had the effect of forcing "Republicans either to willingly eat humble pie or to oppose the bill and be open to charges that they were abandoning the heroes of 9/11." The Zadroga Act ended up being 35 votes short of the two-thirds majority needed to pass it. And the charges against Republicans have of course since been leveled." So, kwippleton, before you get on your high horse about the Republicans, it might be a good idea to admit that, rather than being some sort of shameful play on the part of the GOP, it was, rather, politics as usual on BOTH sides of the aisle. And this is why public approval of Congress is at all-time lows. We're sick of it on BOTH sides.
