http://fangsbites.com/ : A Few 4th of July Links

Ken, the link to the Sandomir column on McCourt is not the right one. It's going to the Nathan's Hot Dog sideline reporter link from earlier in the week. Thanks!

I'm in the same boat with you. As someone who started to watch the last half of the 3rd season and watched the entire 4th season, that concluded last night, this was an A-. "The Suitcase", itself, was an A++.

Ken, I saw the preview on Fancast the other day. I'm pretty sure that it's Joan in the doctor's office, and not Peggy. :-)

Janda Electric has never had as big of a promotional tool as George Patrick and his voice. Talk about trying to imitate that as a kid in the early 80's.

http://fangsbites.com/ : Fang's Bites World Cup TV and Radio Awards

You are spot on with the entire coverage, Fang. This World Cup will be remembered as the one in which I became a Ian Darke fan. He was stellar on the call of his assigned matches. Glen Davis' work was indefensible on radio. It was so bad when I listened to it, I would take Dellacamera and 2 Tommy Smyths to make it up. JP is underused by ESPN. The incomplete grade on Klinsmann was warranted. ESPN could have used him more, because his observations made me understand more about how soccer is viewed around the world and how it's being viewed here in America. One example was after the U.S./Ghana match. Jurgen pointed out that the possible reason for soccer's success outside of the U.S. is that the game is played by children that are poorer areas. Soccer in the U.S. is mostly played in middle-class suburban areas. Kids in the urban areas in America plays basketball and football for the most part, with baseball lagging in 3rd place. Hardly none of them play soccer and have no interest in it. Masekela was a waste of time. The only redeeming part was him talking to his famous father, trumpeter Hugh Masekela about his childhood life in apartheid South Africa. Even that segment was brutal to watch because it felt disjointed. Julie Foudy tried to make up what Masekela bombed in, but to no avail. Schaap would have hit a homer with the human-interest portion of the coverage.

Ryan Paugh — personal discovery, social media, community and more! : I've never had a mentor, and that's okay

Ty, mentoring is seen in both ways: brown nosing and someone who sees talent and helps you be better. The problem is, in my eyes, there are too many people seeking mentors. There is not enough mentors to go around, or they don't want to be bothered with it. I never had a mentor. Many leaders in the community I live in wouldn't spend 5 seconds introducing themselves to me or take the time to know who I am. Many of my peers buy their books, go to all of their events, and inundate them with requests to be their mentors. It used to bother me that I don't get noticed for the things I've accomplished so far in my professional life. I have come to accept the fact that "you" have to be your own mentor. You have to learn from your own mistakes, know your strengths and weaknesses, and stop expecting someone to take you under their wings, as well as expecting them to accept your offer to be your mentor.
