I certainly hope this is what we were supposed to be doing. I've been recruiting she-wolves all day for this.

Damnit. I'd finally stopped crying for a minute. WHY IS RONBLDORE THE THING THAT BROKE ME

I ended a five year relationship (which eventually got reconciled, but damn was that hard) and my best friend died after an emotionally and physically grueling fight with cancer. The Toast and all you lovely people helped keep me going through all of it.

As things got really bad with my best friend and then my grief, I commented less and less and withdrew from friends all around, but... just having a place I could read and still feel connected helped so much.

After tomorrow, I don't know if I'll even recognize my life anymore. My best friend of seventeen years died in February, I got engaged in May, I'm moving from Wisconsin to northern California (?!?!?) in September, and now the Toast is ending. With everything going on this year, I imagine a lot of people reading The Toast are dealing with far more upheaval than I am. You have my sympathy!

I'm not an isolated identity bundled up inside of this meatsuit. Everything I interact with touches me and has an impact on me, something I've been keenly aware of in a world without my best friend. And after this there will be a world without The Toast, without this cozy little place to gather and read and discuss.

I've met so many wonderful people through The Toast. Fellow writers, fellow commenters, even lurkers who popped up on #ToastieTwitter. Thank you, to all of you. Nikki, Nicole, Mallory, all the writers, the commenters, everyone. Every last person here was part of this thing called The Toast for me and I am so grateful for you all.

I'm @ceeemstone on Twitter and I've got an infrequently updated blog at ceeemstone.com and PLEASE DON'T ABANDON ME TOASTIES OGOD

I don't know how I can handle today. I'm already crying and this is the first thing I've read this morning.

In the vast majority of these, I feel like being "prodigal" is just a metaphor for coming home with a hangover. Especially the ones where he looks twelve.

I need to cover myself in glitter and apply purple eye shadow, then do nothing but sing this all day.

That'll be a good day.

Now I finally understand why my ancestors moved from the Netherlands to Wisconsin.
