Couldn't #3 have been the result of volcanic eruptions elsewhere in the world??? Especially with the report of the unusual color of the sky & sun days before the blackout, as well as the "soot" from the sky?

I learned something new today from you, TyB! Please give me references for the Margay mimicry trick... as a CVT, I am always fascinated by animal behavior.

I knew the "Death by laser" scene from "Resident Evil" would rank pretty high on here. I also enjoyed Anthony Hopkin's decapitation in "Speed", and the "curb stomp" scene from "American History X" is especially disturbing to me...probably because of it's realism.

An excellent film, the car crash scene in "Death Proof" where Kurt Russell slams head-on into the car carrying Sydney Tamiia Poitier & her 3 drunk friends, dismembering her "baby giraffe legs" is especially brutal and completely Tarantino-ish.

Special mention of another Tarantino film is the excellent final duel between "The Bride" (Uma Thurman) & "O-Ren" (Lucy Liu).

"That really was a Hattori Hanzo sword." best quote eveh!

After a little research, I find that the "reborn" baby dolls are unlikely to have originally been marketed for children, but rather, the more serious (and creepy) adult doll collector.
At an "affordable" price of $125 and an average of $250, I cannot see this as being marketed to the abusive hands of children. There is much info online about the painstaking love & art that goes into each doll as well as proper care, which includes climate control & minimized handling. One website explicitly states "The most important thing is to remember that reborn dolls aren't just another kind of toy. Hours of care have gone into creating these items, and they can't be handled in the same way as an ordinary doll. That means that children must not play with them, both for the integrity of the doll and the safety of the child."

actually, all the real-life cases of Halloween candy tampering or "razor blades in apple" where perpetrated by the children's own family members. There is not one case of Halloween treat tampering resulting int he death or injury of a child that was random.

Reminds me of the "fake tattoo" scare of the '80's. Seems some rumor-monger came up with a brilliant lie that LSD could be absorbed through the skin of fake tattoos and that grade-school children where tripping balls in the playground. Such an ignorant, anti-drug rumor. First, noone would just up and give LAD away to children. Secondly, LSD is not absorbed thru the skin-it is absorbed via the mucus membranes. Sure, if you had an open wound in the area the fake tattoo is applied, maybe...theoretically...

Never really happened. Silly urban legends; ignorance on parade!

Mark, back in the 1980's, during Nancy Reagan's "Just Say No" campaign, all elementary & junior high students where (forced) to attend mandatory D.A.R.E. (Drug Awareness Resistance Education) programs in public schools.

These classes often lasted weeks, if not the whole year. The involved movies to show us the real-life consequences of excessive drug & alcohol abuse, lectures, workbooks, & such. The result of all this?

When I was first exposed to marijuana at 13, I remembered all I had learned about it in grade school. And I knew what the likely physical response to the drug would be, and I was confident that I could handle it. (and I could)

Drug education in public school made me aware of several street drugs, many of which I have never even seen in real life! The propaganda did not frighten me, it made me a more aware consumer!

I am very impressed by your maturity, Mark, and value your opinions.

Sorry, but Clint Malarchuk had his carotid artery severed, not his jugular vein. Veins don't pump out blood with such force-only arteries do that (because arteries actually have muscles control blood flow). It's a shocking video to watch...especially since several seconds pass before anyone on the ice seems to realize there is a problem. Seconds seem like forever when you can actually feel you life slipping through your fingers!

I am ambidextrous when it comes to such things as holding paint brushes, using scissors, and general daily activities. (my handwriting in my non-dominant hand is atrocious at best, illegible at worst)

here is a great video of an ambidextrous street artist:

you seem to have forgotten this little number: balut. look it up. looks utterly and completely disgusting.

as for the dogs being killed humanely, you are mistaken, Jay Fray. they are forced into tiny cages, and the "fear" is often seen as a means of making the meat more tender.

I don't know how you think animals are slaughtered, but in the United States, undercover individuals are consistently finding horrible cases of cruelty and violations of the Humane Slaughter Act.

I understand that people have to eat; but, as an animal welfare advocate & veterinary technician, I also understand that no dairy cow is actually bred naturally to a bull, that female pigs are forced to lay in tiny gestation cages, and chickens are genetically modified to be so large by a few weeks of age they cannot even stand. all int he name of progress and efficiency.

We are so far removed from our food that many choose to not even acknowledge the cruelties their food had endured while alive. I would never tell someone not to eat meat; just be aware of what that creature was, how it lived, how it died. To never feel the sun, eat a blade of grass, or even reproduce naturally is not humane treatment.
