Not excusing his behaviour, nor saying he should have been fired, but to simplify his dismissal as "one tweet" is disingenuous and pretty misleading. I do not think he should have been fired, I think through mediation and in-house repairing of relationships, he could have and should have stayed on in the post he was in. Rugby Canada (in their infinite wisdom) did otherwise. But to insinuate that all he did was fire off one ill-advised tweet is not an accurate portrayal of the situation.
Awesome to see so much talent spread across Canada and from some smaller population centres. Wonder why we are finding talent outside of the traditional places for the Women's set-up, but not on as large a scale with the Men's?
It was requested by Westshore so they could have spares for their premier game later in the day.
Just to respond Mike, as someone on the BC Rugby Competitions Committee, the alternative to no-push scrums is a team defaulting. The mandate of the CC was to get as many people back playing rugby in the subsequent post-COVID seasons as possible. I suspect this ruling will be changed in the coming years, but this is the rationale. You got to play six games, even if they were rugby league...better than the 2 games you might've gotten otherwise, I would wager...
I believe Blake Mahovic is playing with the Squamish Axemen, good to see some smaller clubs getting their players exposure at a high level!
Someone or some group needs to put up the money first I would imagine....
I agree Darcy would be a great choice!
Mark, genuinely appreciate you laying out all of the information you have, and not shying away from sharing your nuanced thoughts on a complex and in some cases controversial issue. As for the player in question, sounds like she's no longer playing in BC at the moment, and may be taking a breather from the game.
Would be interesting to see a break down of how many of the above players are still playing club, carded or pro rugby and where. One of the big points in that Squidge rugby video about Rugby in Canada was that we don't really retain any of our U20s after they age out. Would love to see hard evidence that this is the case.
Mark - might be constructive for you to tell Canadian/BC rugby people how they go about putting pressure on their club/sub-union/prov union/national union? What can regular citizens do to help.
