It can be pinned down as the bystander effect if no one in the public tried to help her. It is a more galling indictment of the society we live in when the one person who wished to help her was admonished by the bystanders. I reckon these are the same people who would tell the LGBT+ community in Malaysia to stop demanding equal rights and are similarly callous in regards to other social justice movements. A public holiday allows voters to get to polling stations without needing to ask for time off. You think a lowly paid worker would like to be seen as lazy just because they are legally allowed to ask for a day off to vote? It's about voter access, and it is just one day in between two elections unless somehow the incumbent is struck by death on a monthly basis. Besides, don't you have the 1MDB problem to settle first before moving on to alleged economic losses from holidays. Regardless of which party this benefits, the principle should remain to remove as many encumbrances to voting as possible. Something this apparent privileged lawmaker should understand.
