OH MY GOD. Somebody spoiled the ending for Allegiant for me too. IN MY REVIEW FOR INSURGENT. They were all "Yeah, this book has issues, but I liked Tris's character growth, especially when SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER." I. Was. So. Furious. Come on, people. That is not okay!

I never understood why If I Stay had a sequel either (there's no third book). It was completely unnecessary, in my opinion, and not very worthwhile. There wasn't much of a story there.

I've been blogging for several years now, and at one point I hit the sweet spot of networking and choosing the "big" books to review, and so for about 6 months (probably a little longer), my blog had LOTS of traffic and commenting and stuff. And you know, it was fun. I definitely felt like I was reaching an audience and that my voice was being heard, and I met a lot of people and it was great. But it was a LOT of work. And there was pressure, mostly self-created. And looking back, in some ways I did sell out a little bit, but not to a point where I'm super ashamed of it or anything. And then I stepped back and stopped requesting review copies and only commented when I felt like it, and I've been having, I think, more fun than I ever did when I was semi-popular.

So, obviously, this is your blog and your life and you can do what you want with it! :) If getting the high stats and the flashy review copies isn't in your agenda, don't worry about it. It's not wrong, just like it's not wrong to read all the new releases. I think it's great that you know how you want to blog and you're willing to do that even if it's a bit atypical in the community. This all sounds really cliché and stuff, but don't pressure yourself to do anything you don't really want to do.

I was disappointed with Beware the Wild as well, unfortunately. I liked many aspects of it, but in the end I, like you, felt pretty "meh" about it all.

I definitely understand where you're coming from. This is the first year I haven't set a Goodreads challenge in 4 years, and it's really changed how I read. Last year I set my goal for 300 books, then 365 books, then ended up with 418 books by 31 December. And, you know, that's cool, but was it really healthy for my reading life? I was reading MORE books, but I'm not sure I was reading BETTER books. I'm so internally competitive and goal-oriented that the numbers started being the most important thing; like you, I put pressure on myself to meet self-made goals, and that made my reading life in 2013 sort of...weird. This year I really slowed down and stopped looking at the numbers—I still read a lot, but I didn't have a goal to do so. It made things much more laid back on my end.

Definitely YES to all of this right here. Especially #s 1 and 2. It's especially annoying when an author tries to explain why your review of their book isn't right because you didn't read the book in the right way. Um…don't try to talk my out of my opinion? Same for commenters also. I'm definitely all for comments that are like "oh, sorry you hated this book! I, personally, thought that X was well done because Y.", but NOT comments like "I HATED THIS BOOK!". Like…what am I supposed to do with that comment, you know?

I keep seeing this one around, and I figured "oh, a ballerina book, no thanks", but now I'm thinking this might be more my style than I'd anticipated. I'm not going to rush out and get it, sure, but now that I know more about Pointe, I might try it if I see it at the library or something.

Kate Karyus Quinn's books are fantastic! I honestly loved Another Little Piece more than (Don't You) Forget About Me, but both were excellent.

LAINI TAYLOR. Ahhhhhhh! Okay, so, that series gets progressively more awesome with each installment, so by the time you're reading Gods & Monsters you're basically screaming because such perfection should not exist in this world. (Maaaaybe that's an exaggeration. Maybe.)

Also: Zusak. I love The Book Thief, but I SERIOUSLY like I Am the Messenger a lot more than that one. It's a very different kind of book from anything I've ever read—super snarky and strange and touching and GORGEOUSLY written. Yup.
