Yah, I find it hard to do that to my 83 yr old father. I'm mostly venting about the drain on my limited emotional resources, but I do love him very much despite his self- centered oblivion. I'm also very grateful he's the surviving parent as my mum... she was the sort of toxic Doc Paradise described with the old friend.

:Thus far, I'm really enjoying it, probably because it's been long enough since my last read that I'm not invested in the series sticking to the book. The 1st episode to the second season had so much visual candy and was a great opener.

I'm a wee bit jealous of a friend who moved to Port Augustine and entertains tourists in an all femme pirate show.

Let's see, bellydance as Life, I missed a lot of pop music because all I listened to was World Music for years. I, too, hated the Sisterhood label. I was all for finding oneself and confidence through it, but we were friends in dance, not dance sisters, who spent too much time mouthing the acceptance line, while spitefully knocking other forms within the scene (tribal v cabaret).

And oh Paganism! I got so sickened by what it became. Jbird couldn't understand why I was cackling so hard watching American Gods on Sunday, where the strongman Thor got taken in by the Nazi manager, and Lou Reed's leather jacket was stolen and traded to the Dwarves in exchange for the power of Gungnir being increased by the engraver in the mall carving the runes.
Hello, Neo Pagan assholes, we see you.
Solitary hedge witchery is going back to my roots and tossing aside the subculture, and from what I hear now, I'm glad I got out when I did.
But, OTOH, I miss the wonderful theatrics of leading rituals and seeing results.

I'm also mostly over Vampires, but we still visit from time to time. My biggest fandom was the Anne Rice novels, too bad she turned into an asshole.

I haven't been able to look too closely either because I'm not sure I'm ready to hear the Rose Window didn't make it. One of my treasured art memories is standing in there looking up at the overwhelming beauty of it.
