I am so thrilled to see romance novels recommended on The Toast. I'll have to look into all of these! And I'm seconding all the love for Meljean Brook. Everything in The Iron Seas series has been delightful, and I also love her earlier series, The Guardians, although it doesn't have as many queer protagonists.

This is perfect. No other website looks quite as much like the inside of my brain as The Toast.

And "frigatives" is an excellent neologism! We paused in one of my linguistics classes in grad school to talk about how much we wanted to make "fricative" into a mild swear word--"I hate that fricative sound!" etc--so I'm glad to see we're not the only ones who had that thought.
