I picked We Are Okay by Nina LaCour because I read it recently and absolutely enjoyed it! Hope you have a good readathon!

Ok this definitely definitely sounds like a book I need to read!! I mean a "smoking hot romance" AND a mystery?! Weirdly enough, I haven't read too many reviews of this book yet (and those that I have read are really positive) so it's interesting to hear your friend had a few issues with it. And based on your descriptions of the various cliches and predictable tropes, I feel like my best friend would LOVE this book. XD

It sounds like you really enjoyed this book! I've read quite a few negative reviews of it recently and I was surprised because it seemed like this book was a highly anticipated 2016 release. Regardless, I'll probably try it eventually (your review has definitely intrigued me – I just need to get through the books I already have! ):

Now that you mention it, most of the YA books I've read, definitely feature drop dead gorgeous MCs. But I personally don't pay as much attention to the MC's "beauty" as I do to that of the love interest. Overall, I think it's more interesting when MCs aren't conventionally attractive because it helps stretch the definition of beauty (after all it means something different in every culture). TLDR: I don't really pay much attention to whether they're beautiful or not unless I have a crush on the book boyfriend.

I definitely hate bullies as well. I was bullied when I was younger and because of that, I find it hard to really forgive bullies or justify their behavior. I don't really hate characters that make dumb decisions though. I mean they're kind of annoying but I suppose it also makes the book a bit realistic. I've definitely known people who do stupid things or don't seem to use their common sense. I suppose my checklist for hating characters is similar to my checklist for hating people. But no matter how much their actions or their behavior tick me off, if the plot is interesting or if I'm wrapped up in the book, I think I'll probably still enjoy the book. After all, there are definitely some s**** human beings out there lol. And if books reflect real life.. :-) I think you get what I mean haha.

I recently returned from an inofficial hiatus and I feel rather refreshed (and a lot less stressed/worried about my blog) so I'm sure you will too! Also it's definitely a smart idea to schedule posts while you're taking a short break. I hope you end up reading some great books during your hiatus!

So far I haven't read that many classics (the first one that comes to mind is Oliver Twist but I read that 5 years ago..) but I was hoping to remedy that this year. I've read some "modern" classics like The God of Small Things and I'm going to be reading The Secret History (which isn't a classic..but the prose is gorgeous!) sometime this week. The Picture of Dorian Gray is also on my 'classics tbr' so I might end up reading it sometime this year.

My most anticipated reads of 2016 basically consist of the books in the first row of the graphic. Last year, Sarah J. Maas and V. E. Schwab were among my favorite writers so this year I'm very excited to dive in to their books (hopefully they'll come out soon!). I confess I haven't read any of Maggie Stiefvater's books even though everyone seems to love her writing...I dnf'd the first book in the Ravel Cycle series a few years ago and since then I haven't really tried any of her books.

It kind of sounds like the movie was a lot better than the book. But I mean this is isn't the first time I've read a pretty negative review of The 5th Wave which was pretty high up on my tbr, about a year ago but then I eventually decided *not* to read it because a friend of mine pointed out a lot of the same things you did in her review of it. (Sorry about the really long rambling sentence haha.) I'm kind of disappointed that the characters have no chemistry though because if all else fails, you can usually hook me with a cute romance (which has a *slow* and *realistic* buildup ;).

Earlier I cut back on requesting ARCs to the point where I didn't request any at all..but the new year is here and I not only want to read & review some old ARCs from last year but also request some new ones for books I am very excited for....but the main reason I'm reading this post is because I'm worried I'll fall back into old habits and start requesting a bunch. I haven't tried a lot of the things you've suggested above and I'll definitely keep them in mind when I start requesting again in a month or two. I actually really need to update my statistics because they've changed a bit since a few months ago (although I think they've changed for the better...?).
