When Sean was first introduced, Hanna said he'd single-handedly brought back the grunge look. http://www.octopuspie.com/2008-04-25/137-souffle/ And indeed his whole look in that strip is very Seattle/Portland.

She's got great hair, her eyes are pretty, and she's wearing a super-flattering, classy top. She's gorgeous!

Not really? Not really??? Wow, that's maybe the shittiest thing ever from Will.

I completely ignored any Will and Larry possibilities out of this strip. Didn't even notice them. The Will and Hanna possibilities had my full attention. What the hell happened?

So Eve goes for guys who can handle themselves in a fight? Will's a scrapper, too.

Well, he's about to move to Chicago, and she's not sure she's serious enough about him to go, so deciding not to spend the night might foreshadow her eventual decision - which would be an uncomfortable thought.

But I think the other reason for all her facial expressions on this page is that she's a little afraid to walk home alone at night, but doesn't want it to rule her life.

I think that's insightful about Hanna really thinking she's doing the right thing. The only thing I disagree with is your interpretation of panel 12 (the one where she looks "shocked.") I actually think that's a continuation of the "crazy eyes" from the previous panel. It looks to me like Hanna's geared up for Marigold to fire back or maybe just still kind of "catching her breath" from her outburst, so to speak. She doesn't expect Marigold to walk away.

Wow...I was expecting Hanna to blow up and tell Marigold to shut up and leave her alone (with a side of "you don't know what I'm going through), but I wasn't expecting this sort of calculated attack / throwing-in-face of all the secrets Marigold has ever trusted her with.

You're right, that's the other side of it--good find. Also Hanna's answer "We'll have to [agree], eventually." Sounds like she was probably hoping, or even expecting, that Marek would change his mind about children for her. I don't blame her for that, most people aren't so clear-eyed they won't tell themselves lies sometimes--especially for something they want so badly. But it looks like overall her approach to dealing with her areas of incompatability with Marek was "breaking up with him is much too painful to think about, so I won't think about it and I'll just keep telling myself that everything has to work out." That's why she freaked out at Donovan.

OK, found an earlier Marek one: http://www.octopuspie.com/2008-07-28/175-upstate-... "Wow! It must be wonderful to live in the suburbs! I want to raise a family up here!" I can't point to anything to prove it but I'm willing to bet Hanna doesn't want to leave NYC either.
