Ignoring their right wing has been the downfall of every Tory PM after Thatcher. Grudges will be hardened, ad knives will be sharpened. What's the point of voting Tory if you don't actually get a Tory government?

I'd say it's about 50/50 that the Cons will gain Copeland, but it's not the shoo-in that many assume. It all depends on how much they can squeeze the UKIP vote

There are many current and former Labour voters who would never dream of voting Tory, but would consider voting UKIP. And, while Theresa May may be enjoying something of a honeymoon period over Brexit, the Tories will ultimately be found out over issues such as energy policy and their feeble and equivocal response to the rise of militant Islam. The idea that the Tories will suddenly become competitive in working-class seats such as Stoke-on-Trent is wishful thinking.

Democracy is weakened if there isn't a competent opposition to hold the government to account. But Labour has no automatic right to hold that position. If it dies, it dies.

I don't know what the final figures are, but this report backs up what I said. I'm sure it's nowhere near 2:1 in favour of Remain http://news.sky.com/story/1645941/majority-of-tor...

Don't agree. The current arrangements are a reasonable compromise between the demands of business and this country's Christian heritage. I can't believe that anyone could genuinely claim that they're unable to get their shopping done - that suggests very poor time management.

This is one instance where Conservatives should be proud to be conservative rather than deregulating everything.
