Seriously?? You didn't know who Naomi Klein was? Really should do your research before you try to take someone on. A Twitter war is SO not what she's about.

I don't think I define myself by defining others - I define my *self* by saying, "I am". Cogito, ergo sum. By the act of thinking that I exist, I define my self. The word "self" actually comes from a base word meaning, "separate, apart." We define ourselves as our selves; how we define others may be a reflection of that definition, or may come to be a warped form of our selves as our lives are constructed. But the initial self, just *is*,
And I don't see a need to "kill" my self, as it is the essence of me. What I need is to be mindful of how that self learns to regard and respond to all that surrounds it; mindful that if I in my essence can just *be*, without taking on the constructs and conditions that makes us fractured and frazzled, that is harmony.
That said, one of the most important forms of mindfulness is, while being aware of our intrinsic selves, our being able to BE, that the self is not self-ish.

Jason Kenney is the kind of politician who makes me ashamed of who we are becoming.

Why not? It's about the methods of control, not the number of followers.

That's not a guru - what you just described is a cult leader. And an abuser.

I grew up in a maximum security prison town - I know a lot about what goes on inside. I think that often we make too many excuses for criminals. BUT, that said, I think that everyone should have the chance to redeem themselves. If they have no hope of life ever getting better, they will not ever change. The prisoners who do best, who are most likely to try to do something with their lives both inside and when they get out, are the ones who have been given a chance to think there's a better way. If yoga can do that, I'm all for it.

What point exactly? That without the T&A it can be harder to get a good cause noticed? Boo hoo - the path to enlightenment is harder than you expected. Does that mean you should leave the path?
And René, you actually missed the point. This isn't about Sasha Grey, or any other porn star , or porn itself particularly. The conversation was about the legitimacy of using gratuitous sexual imagery to get attention when it's out of context and has no relevance to the topic.

Colin, I agree on the whole. Human over-population is incredibly destructive. Two things I'd add, to explain my reply to Christina: overbreeding of animals causes suffering. To paraphrase Gandhi, an enlightened society is one that cares about all living creatures. And the other thing that I was particularly reacting to was Christina's comment "I breed my dogs, make some cash... and enjoy the ride" which came across as distressingly exploitative and uncaring.

@ Christina DC - that has got to be the most unenlightened comment I've ever seen here!
