PLAYERESSENCE : Shuhei Yoshida confirms there will be lesser first party games for PS Vita

They can't discontinue it yet, for the same reason Nintendo won't discontinue the Wii U yet. It will continue to be a liability on their financial records, but cutting it off now, and screwing the 7/8 million something Vita users already out there, will cause more long term damage. There's just enough of a userbase out there that they have to support, even if it won't make them as much money as it should be. So yeah, less AAA games, but they have committed to a Gravity Rush 2, and they'll do every other thing in the sun to make sure it keeps on getting games. I think they're making the most of the situation.

PLAYERESSENCE : Yo ReviewTechUSA...U Mad Bro?

While I agree that Rich insisting on his train of thought would be stupid, you could have been more civil and not even used that word. Having said that, I don't think you should change anything in this video at all! If Rich does make a reaction video, I want you to remember that (obviously) he has a financial incentive to get his videos shared and talked about.

OK, so I'm not crazy about that little diss in the end, but it's consistent with your argument, and you still did not go after Rich's work, not really anyway. Obviously, I think you were in the right on this one, and Rich just did that thing that makes him have to make retraction videos :)

PLAYERESSENCE : Kaz Hirai's Credibility to turn Sony Around is Under Question After $1.1 Billion Forecast loss

BTW, this isn't clear from Bloomberg's reports, but Sony has to phone in a loss from selling Vaio because they'll be reporting projected sales from the division as a lost opportunity now. This won't be the case with the TV subsidiary business, but it should show up in the annual financial report, unless Sony decides to hide it there too.

PLAYERESSENCE : Sony's Stock Reduced to 'junk' Status Once Again, Despite the PS4 Success

I think Sony is seeing more challenge in TVs, where they're trounced by brands like Samsung and Changhong, and smartphones, one of their few sure profit centers, but dwarfed by iPhone, Samsung, etc.

This does not necessarily follow. Like Sony and Nintendo, Microsoft had an interest in gaming thanks to Sega, which prodded them to enter the space. Google seemed to have a genuine interest in entering PC gaming via Chromebook OS, but it's not there anymore. It's in Valve's self interest to take control of their own platform, so that's one for us. As it is now, the risks and costs associated to dedicated gaming consoles make it prohibitively expensive to come in, so Apple would never want in. Everyone who wants to enter gaming is doing so via Android, rightly or wrongly, because it's the cheap way in.

The real disservice here is made to Playstation fans, who are being conditioned to think that the 'next-gen wars' narrative actually matters. You ought to be grateful PS4 even got released, and be worried about the future.

Just to clarify guys, what happened here is the last of the three credit rating groups, Moody's, decided Sony is junk status. Fitch and Standard & Poor already did this last year. This is just Moody's delaying the inevitable conclusion. Technically, nothing's changed with Sony, they were just struck by a huge dose of reality, esp post CES. I genuinely believe Sony is more likely to bottom out or leave gaming than Nintendo.

PLAYERESSENCE : Japanese Investment Firm Blames Sony for Nintendo's Inability to Secure 3rd Party Games

I don't think ACE is referring to 3DS this year, but the 3DS when it launched. There also seems like pressure from Nintendo to buy more exclusivity deals, and we have to acknowledge that they seem to have one signed up for at least Monster Hunter. I think current management loathes that idea though, not just Iwata, but Miyamoto, Takeda, etc. It might be one of the changes we'll see, but I think their idea of overtly working with 3rd parties to remix their IPs could have legs too. Still, this industry kind of sucks if you have to rely on throwing money around for that sort of thing.

PLAYERESSENCE : NASDAQ Article says Nintendo is a Promising ''Value Investment' in 2014

Thanks for sharing my stuff again guys! For the record, I have never thought Michael Pachter is lying about Nintendo. He's just always been fundamentally wrong, because as he himself admits, he does not understand Japanese companies. What's worse is that he really gets too much credit for being a pundit when his CNN/FoxNews/MSNBC equivalent would be laughed out of the room for the biases he displays. I also took some pains to explain value investing because it's not necessarily something most analysts do. Most investors try to go for more immediate gains, but with value investing, you are partly an advocate because you're saying, "I think this company will make a lot of money over time, if not right now." Neither approach is inherently evil or correct, it's just a way for people to make money. If there was a big takeaway I wanted you guys to take, it's that serious investors (like Charles de Vaulx) didn't take Pachter's advice, and have been invested in Nintendo for years. For years. And these guys make the kind of money we will never see in our lives. Think about that for a second. Do you seriously think the people at Charles de Vaulx or Nintendo lose sleep over what Pachter or BlackB0nd think? Thank you for your time.

PLAYERESSENCE : Wii U and 3DS Dominate Amazon Japan's Best Sellers List

None of those three have access to digital sales numbers. Also, just to be clear, Nintendo is actually far more open about disclosing their digital sales data then Microsoft or Sony, as neither company have actually shared those numbers to NPD or other number crunchers. When it comes right down to it, the only time we will know for sure about Nintendo's performance last month, or this one, or any other gaming company, you have to wait for their quarterly report. In this case, Nintendo's next quarter will also be end of their financial year (of Luigi). Sometime February or March (which is how long it took last year) those results, as well as the next board meeting, will come up.

Neither of the three big Japanese sales data companies, Media Create, Famitsu, nor Dengeki, are 100 % accurate when it comes to game sales, but generally you will notice their charts have similar numbers week after week. They track sales from each retailer independently and there is some overlap. For the record, most of the industry trusts Media Create; it's what Nintendo quotes on their reports. Whether they are the best at tracking numbers down or not is a subject for debate.

PLAYERESSENCE : Wii U Sold out at Walmart's Online Store

Thanks for picking this story up Francis! My interpretation of it is, as Nintendo says, Wii U sales may have nothing to do with PS4/Xbox One sales at all. Both Sony's and MS' consoles are practically being hoarded by hardcore fans, while Nintendo's being selling their consoles to a more mainstream audience. Having said that, Nintendo obviously has more Wii U stock available on hand than Sony and MS have for their consoles, and that availability will make the difference when shoppers actually go to stores. That 220,000 units estimate stands on really shaky ground. I mean, this was guessed from NPD reports, who didn't give out the actual numbers, and even if we had the numbers NPD only covers 60 % of US retailer data. So, the truth is we don't know how many consoles Nintendo sold. We also don't know how many units they stocked for Thanksgiving holiday sales, any more than we know how many are stocked now. US retailers keep running out of stock for it, so my best guess is whatever sales projections Nintendo and/or retailers have are being exceeded.
