i have spent the last two days blogging about similar issues, or at least exploring them. i wasn't able to come up with as quite a poignant message for my readers, though, and i'm happy to see that you articulated the message quite clearly. wonderful post and well said!

i'm always so impressed when people have the dedication and passion to read the classics like you do. i love classics, but it takes so much effort and patience that i end up reading 1 classic for maybe every 10 or 20 other books i read.

i second that about A Thousand Splendid Suns. it was an excellent read, much better than The Kite Runner.

i just took the GRE earlier this year, so i know how stressful it can be! i'm back in grad school in the English Composition and Rhetoric program, but i'd looked at Library Science, as well. it seems like a fascinating field of study!

the description of your reading evolution sounds so very familiar. it's amazing how the books that you'd roll your eyes at before can suddenly seem like the most wonderful words ever written!

as a lover of literary fiction myself, i'll definitely be back in the future. it's great to have the opportunity to meet you through Armchair BEA.

i am totally with you. i didn't care about the characters and just got lost in it all. in the end, i wasn't emotionally invested at all and was glad to be done with it.

that said, i really enjoyed Stardust and am hoping to pick up The Graveyard Book soon. the graphic novel version of Coraline was also very good.

wow. i want. i've always dreamed of a library that had floor to ceiling books that was so high that i had rolly ladders, but that'll probably never happen...
