Not a deep deep reply - just a shout out to say thanks for bringing this issue to light. So many Christians are afraid to talk about it. Your post is balanced and fair. And the ensuing discussion has been too!

Agreed - Fargo was amazingly good. One thing I loved about True Grit was the outdoor shots. Beautiful. And it was fun to see Jeff Bridges do a role that was unlike any previous role.

My wife & I saw "True Grit" last night as a date. Loved the film. Coens - most always on the top of the list of truly entertaining films.

Completely agreed, Shawn. I think people of all stripes can glorify God with their art - Luke 19:40. (I may be taking that verse out of context, but I still believe that concept.)

Christian music? As you imply, it's sadly derivative. I stopped listening years ago, because of that. Sad but true.

From Michael : How do I create a budget?

Agreed. I wish more people thought that way. We are about half-way paid on our home. We pay more than the mortgage each month, and we'd love to reach the point where we are paying even a significant amount more each month.

I hope many read this and heed. The spend-more-than-you-take-in habit is unfortunately part of our culture and society, from the very top to the very bottom. My wife and I are thankful that the only debt we have is our mortgage. (So what if one of our vehicles is almost 10 years old? It is still running fine.)

Media in the New Millennium : It Only Looks Easy

Love this post, Doyle. Reminds me of when desktop computers were getting to be in the hands of most Americans. Everyone with an inkjet printer thought they could then design a good brochure. No. It takes a professional to make a quality piece - just like having Lance Armstrong's bike won't let you win the Tour de France.

LeadingSmart : Ribbons, Magnets and Colored Bras

I'm so jaded when it comes to giving to causes. Part of it is that I lived in Kenya, Africa for 5 years. I saw real physical need there deeper than any in the USA. And that did not come from a visit - but from seeing the need for weeks, months and years on end. In America, the spiritual need is as great as anywhere. Do I give to that? Yes, sometimes. Not as often or as deeply as my ideals say I would. And my wife and I do give financially to many causes. But I rarely give a extra dollar to the cause mentioned at the checkout counter or to the homeless person at the stoplight. Maybe I should.
