Winter Is Coming : More Thrones audition videos

Hi, Brude. Just to tack on to this, in between the time I posted this and now I had a video audition that went like this: 1) My agent called me and said that some casting agents pulled my photo and wanted me to submit a video audition. 2) I recorded the audition and uploaded it on a site that could be accessed by a link. 3) My agent sent the link to the casting agents. For me that was it. My friend moved onto the next stage, though, which was going to a callback with the casting agents and eventually getting cast. In this case, the casting agents were local, but the production company was about 300 miles away.

I think you're right. When he signs off he says: "Off I go to shovel Snow." That capitalization seems to indicate Jon Snow.

From what I know about New Mexico, I suspect the "Snowing" is a reference to his work on the book. It's currently about 86 degrees Fahrenheit there.

I noticed that he mentioned 10,000 BC and "inventing" accents, which may serve him well here. Of course, the fact that there will be a working Dothraki language should be of considerable help. Impressive list of credits, too! http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0348159/

Yeah, he's definitely spreading himself thin. Aside from a few notable exceptions, HBO seems to be all about giving talented folks without much renown a break with Game of Thrones. Maybe it'll be the direction they go with their composer as well.

Winter Is Coming : GRRM on composers

Wishful thinking, but maybe the early selection means we'll get a chance to hear the direction they're going for with the music in the next trailer. On that note, you might remember that I posted a link to HBO's Boardwalk Empire Trailer a while back. Here's the version that was on their site at that time: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j5fpNXPVG1k The song that's playing is "Straight Up And Down" by The Brian Jonestown Massacre, which I think goes really well with how the trailer is cut. HBO has a new version of the trailer, with what I imagine is original music created for the show: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aTCbddqoE4I It seems a little bit like a step backwards to me, but it might just be that the trailer was cut to different music so this new music seems a bit out of step with it. However, it might be that whole "what's learned first is learned best" thing, because I watched the first version so much I got used to it. Basically, my point is that if we get a solid trailer, whatever music is playing is going to be associated in my mind with the show. I'd prefer it to be from the actual composer, and I've got my fingers crossed. Still, I've seen many trailers with temporary music, or even music from other movies, so I'm not holding my breath.

That's a good point. The only TV work she's done that I know of has been on the show Ryomaden, and then only on the theme song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TYgL0Go4YXY I think the chances are slim, but I agree with WIJB that she'd be great for the show. Feasible? It's pretty much moot at this point unless she happens to be one of the final composers between whom they're deciding.

Winter Is Coming : George confirms Tena as Osha

I'll say this: I think Natalia Tena is going to be great as Osha. And Mogons, I apologize. I did use strong language like "absurd" and "disingenuous" in my reply to you. To be clear, the "disingenuous" was in reference the implied story that Natalia Tena showed up out of the blue among some older actresses. In general, casting doesn't work that way. Now that Natalia has been cast, I'd be surprised if TIA hadn't been going for the role of Osha as well. Still, you made a good point that I used your post about valuing acting ability over physical appearance to further my own personal "there are plenty of talented older female actresses" agenda. I apologize.

I don't see the contradiction. Of course, since I wrote it, that's going to be a particular blind spot for me. Basically, I was drawing the distinction between: "This young, hot, up-and-coming actress read for the role of Osha and they decided to go with her even though she didn't exactly fit the character in the books." And: "They couldn't find any 35 to 40-year-olds with the acting ability to play Osha, so they had to go with a younger, hotter actress."

I'd agree with this. If you overload the series with horrific visuals, it lessens the impact of the ones that GRRM actually wrote. Besides, the Hound's attitude carries the real impact for me.

Jackie, the Lovejoy/Swearengen connection here is spot-on. I wouldn't even have thought of it if you hadn't mentioned it. (And of course, have to add for those who haven't seen the original post that the "not much we can do about it" was a statement about all of the casting. Personally, I'm thrilled about Aiden Gillen.)
