A smaller home only works if you have lots of storage/closets in it. We have a small, old farm house, eg., our addition was going to be the size of home most people START with. Our house looks cluttered, but that's mostly because I have no where to put anything! To have a spotless, minimal looking home I would have to stop knitting, sewing, and reading.

Also, be careful purging the material and wool. I did a big purge a few years ago of all my 'office' clothes material (don't need many power suits now). Now I'm having a bit of a panic because I think I've gotten rid of all the wool/linen that I need for my medieval clothes. I agree with Brandy, get rid of the bits but keep the yardage.

What a beautiful family!

Nope, potatoes don't get planted on St. Patrick's day. Basically nothing goes in the ground outside before the May 24th holiday weekend. :)

I'm so jealous!! My violets are still brown and under snow in some places. We are expecting another dump of snow tonight.

Yes, PLEASE all moms reading this -get in front of the camera!! We suddenly lost my MIL in 2012 and we had such a hard time finding pictures of her for the funeral. Do your kids a favour and get in front of that camera!!!

You look beautiful! And I love your sweaters.

Being a 'grandma' doesn't mean you have to be old. My grandma was 41 when I was born (mom and grandma believed in marrying young). I think it was more a question because you were out with the kids when most 'mom's' are at work??

Just because she asked about 'heat' it doesn't have to turn into 'the talk'. We live on a farm, so she's seen more than most city kids. But I only answer as much as she needs to know. For example, 'fluffy bits' on the Tom cats are so we can tell they are boys. And 'heat' is just the time when a cat is ready to have kittens. She's happy with those answers for now (she's 8).

I think that's the secret. Only give them as much of an answer as they want/need. They will ask more if they are still curious.

Ella loves playing in the dirt but wanted no part of her sandbox. But maybe boys are different :)

Pants are NOT warmer than dresses. Also, dresses are more forgiving for layers. I'm in the Ottawa Valley in Ontario (so way north of southern Kentucky). We only wear dresses. We wear tights under our dresses in the winter or leggings. I often wear knee length leggings and knee socks. Our coats come at least hip length and usually wear tall boots. I'm way warmer these days dressed like this than back in my jeans and ski jacket days.

You can also make slips from flannel for really cold days, but you'll have to deal with some static issues. I find my cotton petticoat keeps me warm and blocks most of the draft. Since you like to knit, you could really warm up your girls by making these: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/nether-ga... I make them for my daughter every year for skating (I use patterned sock wool).

Lots of ways to keep warm without wearing pants. Don't forget, warm feet and warm head goes a long way to keeping the whole body warm.

When I was pregnant with Ella my maternal serum test came back positive for SB. We had to go to the city for a 'level 2' ultrasound. Thank God it was a false positive (the maternal serum test is notorious for false positives) and my baby was beautiful and perfect. It was such a scare.
