And don't forget Mark Herring, the Democratic AG who not only declined to defend the unconstitutional VA law but filed a brief on the side of the plaintiffs. That is what leadership looks like.

It doesn't matter. Even if marriage and procreation were substantially linked in reality, and even if there is a legitimate state interest in encouraging straight procreating couples to marry, there is still no rational argument that prohibiting gay couples (with or without children) from marrying advances that state interest. That argument has been rejected over and over as irrelevant to the question here.

Is it just me, or does Niemeyer seem not terribly bright?

"'You need a man and a woman to have a child,' he says. 'I’m not aware of any person in the world who is not a product of a man and a woman. …. At least as of now. Scientifically, we don’t know where we’re headed.'"

Well good gosh, I had to stop reading right here: "The amendment, passed in 2012 with over 60 percent of North Carolinians voting for it, defines marriage as the union of a man and a woman.”

I think what the author meant to say was that 60 percent of the North Carolinians who chose to vote in a Republican primary voted for Amendment One, which is a rather different number. If he got this detail so spectacularly wrong, one has to wonder what else he's misrepresenting.

Every know-nothing in Virginia is also very, very sure of this with regard to our AG. In fact, the delegate for whom the VA anti-marriage amendment is named, who coincidentally is not an attorney, has tried to initiate impeachment proceedings against him. Good times.

Absolutely. There is now no question about the value of Regnerus' "study." Best thing that could have happened.

"What is Marriage" is the subject of an epic takedown by Rob Tisinai. The whole series is here: http://wakingupnow.com/blog/category/robert-georg...

More animus. If the (apparently unexamined) assumption is that being gay is equivalent to being "poor" and that we could similarly work our way out of the unfortunate situation isn't animus, I don't know what is.
